I'm absolutely fuming right now as a direct result of a conversation with a friend of mine, who claims to be a 'proper Chelsea fan' Just need to vent and feel this forum is quite an appropriate place to do so.

Scenario:
My friend signs me up for some market research up town for a nice little £40 in my back burner. I go to my inbox to fill out the questionnaire for it and realise its on Thursday 4th at 20:00.....HOLD UP!

I give him and bell and ask him why he thinks its okay to sign me up without any consideration for the football. I mean his team are playing that night as well.

Here's the jist of how the conversation went down:

Me: "I'm not coming mate, gonna email her and tell her"

Chelsea fan: "Why not?"

Me: "Spurs are playing!"

Chelsea fan: "So what, its only one game and you can earn £40"

Me: "£40 will not buy me out of watching Spurs, especially since its a bloody quarter final of a European competition"

Chelsea fan: "Oh I'm not that bothered anyway, if we get to the final I'll be up for it but until then I don't care. The Europa League means nothing to me. I'd rather go and earn £40"

Me: "Your talking out of your ass mate, do you know how ridiculous you sound? You call yourself a fan?"

This is why I get very upset about Chelsea fan's, the sheer ignorance is disgusting. They don't deserve to be anywhere near that final in May and if they are I hope we hand it to them properly, so it hurts real bad.

Spurs are and will always be number one for me. They are probably the only thing that makes me happy these days so I want to live every moment because I love my club.

£40 might buy him or any Chelsea fan out of watching there team play just because they perceive to be better than the competition they are in but I tell you bloody something YOUR THE WORST EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS IN HISTORY and IF YOU FINISH 5TH THIS YEAR YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY COS IT WILL BE AN IMPROVEMENT ON LAST YEAR

MUGS!!

Chelsea fans are bound to have that sort of attitude towards the Europa, they've been spoilt with league titles and constant CL football (even winning it once)

Even Spurs fans sometimes say we should play the kids in the europa and concentrate on getting CL football, and we've won less in the last 30 years than they have in 2 seasons pretty much (not to mention only having 1 season of CL football ever)

The Carling cup final 2008 meant everything to us, it was just another game to them

If I got that wound up by every idiot I come across i'd have had a heart attack before I was 30.

Everyone's different. Why get upset about it?

Sorry to sound pedantic but your thread title states "Chelsea's attitude towards the Europa League" when in fact you've only spoken to a broke Chelsea fan!

Bit harsh to me, even if I don't like the chavs either

I was hoping that this thread would then naturally lead on to a more wider discussion on the point...

I'd feel exactly the same as your friend to be honest. Whilst I love watching spurs play in the EL and I would love to see us win it, due to working messed up shifts I've only caught 2 games live thus far and refuse to waste my holiday to watch a 2nd rate competition (unless we reach the semi's).

I always think winning a trophy is more personal to a fan.

I remember seeing us win the Carling Cup in 1999 and 2008 with great joy but don't remember any of the winners inbetween.

In a wider context the league is more important but to a fan there is no greater joy than seeing your club win something.

Chelsea have had consistent CL football for a long time now and won the CL last season. Not surprising that some of them aren't as enthused towards the EL.

i wudnt sell out watching spurs, but i agree in a sense id rather be in Champions League than risk lossing it to win the european 'worthless cup' ... however befor peeps slate me, of course id like to win it, its still has a small amount of prestige but for the players its an experience get that winning feeling, they will learn n hopefully improve fromnit, but NOT if it hinders us from CL football! our ONE and only outing gave us immense coverage. ok ill stop now :)
