Footballers have a short shelf life, they are one injury or one run of bad form away from the end of their career, when someone is offering you obscene amounts of money in a career that could be over tomorrow no sane person would turn it down.

Frankly I think the level of money players make even at spurs is utterly absurd but I wouldn't begrudge them going to make more.

That being said, studies have shown that earning anything above £70,000 in salary is insignificant to an individuals happiness, ultimately money only buys happiness to a certain point, that point being £70,000 P/A apparently.

Great to see Chelsea unsettled but not the growing pull of China. It's only a matter of time before they turn the head of one of our players.

That said, we don't attract the same kind of wankers Chelsea do.

I would be worried about Kane, or Toby or Lloris, I know they are happy here but when this sort of money is being thrown around it's impossible for a player to ignore quite frankly.

I've done some quick research for my own benefit but thought I'd share.

There are 16 clubs in the China Super League. They are allowed 4 foreigners each, and 1 Asian player in their squads.

Brazil have 23 players, the next highest non Asian country is Colombia with 4 players.

Half the quota is approx taken by South Americans, the other half is shared between Europe and Africa.

The high profile players in their league they have right now are:

Paulinho, Teixeria, Ramires, Oscar, Hulk, Martinez, Lavezzi, Tevez, Martins, Mikel, Cisse, Ba, Gervinho, Yilmaz, Witsel, Pelle

From what I can see the players at risk in the Premier League are likely to be South American, so not only Costa, but Aguero, Sanchez, Firmino, Coutinho, Lamela who can all be unsettled. As for English players I'd say Rooney and Terry. I'd be shocked if any of our younger players would go at this stage of their career. Dembele though could be unsettled as might some other Belgian players if Witsel settles well.

It's a pre retirement pay day turned into a market for players of any age to stay for a year or two but that will be it.

Plenty of foreigners in Beijing and Shanghai, then a lot in Guangzhou and Shenzhen down south, but lifestyle? Nah, there's just not enough to do. Beyond these places, there are hardly any good international schools for the kids to go to.

The airs crap, most foreigners and Chinese are like chalk and cheese.

Stadia with running tracks, very poor refs, playing standards below the Championship.

I've done five years, and will hopefully be going back again, primarily to earn more wedge- just with loads fewer zeros on the end.

All trophies aside and tags of being a mercenary, I really wouldn't blame anyone for going out there for 600k a week. That's crazy money that sets you and your family up for life.

You wouldn't even need to do it for a year. If you just stick it out for a season even that's a hell of a lot of money.

I completely understand the issues with it and why people criticise these players for chasing the money. Me personally I just really wouldn't be able to blame someone for doing it.

It would be fantastic to experience the Chinese culture but as you say, it's one thing being in one of the major cities but being out in the provinces with presumably a lot of free time without much, if any knowledge of the language would make you feel quite isolated. If you were someone who really wanted to make the most out of the experience, learn the language and immerse yourself in the local culture then it would be a fantastic experience but how many footballer players would have that viewpoint?

Aren't China just doing what the Premier league has been doing for years, but with more money? It's going to be interesting to see how long they sustain it for as one of the government officials out there has already called it either obscene or irresponsible.

They are indeed...

We really don't like China's silly money, do we. We think our silly money should be the ceiling in football, not theirs (Diego Costa etc).

Some PL managers and commentators are looking at China in the same way other European countries look at the PL.

Discussed this idea with the wife last week. Even that kind of salary increase from what I am on would never see me move to China, Dubai etc.

I would without hesitation. China is an amazing place. Two years absorbing their culture and walk away with £60m! I could take care of so many faimily members and friends with that kind of money.... Those that hadn't pissed me off though would be fine though :sneaky::sneaky:

Seems like it's fully official now:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38636082

That's gonna make things... interesting.

Whatever you think of the whole exodus etc... any ruling which has a direct effect on your starting XI is surely a stupid one?
'Teams will now also be required to name two Chinese players aged under 23 in their matchday squads, with at least one in the starting XI'.

Anyone else think it's only a matter of time before we receive a mega bid for Son considering his status in Asia?

I've never been but I would be genuinely interested to know why you hold it in such high esteem. I have a terrible impression of the place from a human rights perspective.

I'm sure we'll be hearing soon about said Chinese government official disappearing after being accused of corruption...

I've only been to China once but have travelled and worked in a few Asian countries. I just love the contrast in culture and people. I didn't see any violations in human rights but I obviously know they go on. I lived in Africa for a time as well and human rights are shite there too but I loved it. Amazing people and again a huge contrast in culture. If you're prepared to embrace that change you'll love it. And what better way to help effect change even in a tiny way than live and mix in that culture. Although it changed me more than I could ever hope to change it.
