Was going to ask this before but forgot - where did this £25m business actually come from ? I don't remember any actual quotes - just that they had a big fee in mind and a deadline.

If AVB and co rate him then, as I said a week or two ago, I don't mind paying 20m, so long as there's a little structure to it. Appearance money and a sell-on clause. If he's as good as Villa claim then they'll make money one way or another and we will more than likely have a wedge as a result of his performances

I don't mind paying 20mio either but 25mio.. cmon, that's too much. BTW: we all know that transfer won't happen. Same story as Leandro

Why are people so obsessed with the fee. Like a 5 million pound difference is swinging their decision. Let Levy, and more importantly Lewis, decide if they want to splash out for him.

Still don't see £17m so far and £20m + for Benteke, as a Spurs spending pattern.

I hope I'm wrong

Would be surprised if we are spending 20 million up front for Benteke but I would be fine with it. He is tall, strong and scores goals, not much else on the checklist for a striker if you ask me. Levy will be fine with it because he is young and should keep his value fairly well unless serious injury hits him. If we can send them a young backup to offset the costs all the better.

I would think the summer would be fairly well finished if we get Benteke if you ask me. Maybe we bring in a young player or two if we offload some dead weight but other than that I love our team and we have very few holes in it if you ask me.

Lloris/Friedel GK
Walker/Naughton RB
Kaboul/Vert/Dawson/Calker CB
BAE/Rose LB maybe that could use an upgrade
Lennon/Siggy RW maybe could use a young player as Siggy doesn't quite fit as a RW
Dembele/Paulinho/Sandro/Parker/Huddlestone/Carroll CM I believe easily our best position now with the addition of Paulinho
Bale/Siggy/Holtby/Townsend LW/AM
Benteke/Defoe/Ade Striker

Not a horribly bad spot on the pitch, can't remember being able to say that for Spurs since I started really supporting them in 98.

Go get Benteke and close up shop for the summer Levy! COYS!

What concerns me is how long Arsenal will wait around for a new striker. If we want Benteke we need to get it sorted soon as our neighbours in red are eager for a man up front too. They're quiet on that front since the Higuain links died down but you just know they'd relish gazumping us.

I'm sure he's said he's a fan of them before, plus they offer more money than us and CL football. To be honest, I'm amazed the tabloids haven't started with this as a story.

Don't think Arsenal are after Benteke. They have Giroud who is meant to have similar qualities. They want a poacher-type.

Was just about to post exactly this. I think they're looking for a more agile, fox in the box type.

The surprising thing if we get Benteke is that we will have done so while City, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all also after a striker. City and Chelsea have lost out on Cavani and I can't really think of many top strikers who remain available.

Wenger does look like he needs a piss.

Hasn't been able to go since he walked in on Pat Rice...

Let's face it, right now Benteke would not be in the category of "top strikers" - maybe after another good season or two but right now it would be a stretch. Chelsea and Arsenal still have the likes of Suarez and Higuain to target, and Chelsea have Romelu Lukaku and thus have no need for Benteke.

I will be really really pleased if we get Benteke, but I doubt we would have had too much competition for his signature from English clubs that can compete with us financially.

City are now close to Jovetic, and Chelsea were linked with Rooney this weekend although that could be rubbish. Osvaldo, Negredo, Doumbia, Soldado, Higuain, Jackson Martinez, all still available. Lots of window left.
