There were quite a few lacklustre performances out there, but I can't blame Eriksen for not scoring. He was unlucky and that is that. Now Chadli, that's another story! We all know that he's better than that. He's one of the guys I thought we could rely on yesterday. Hopefully he'll improve in the next game. I just think that certain players can get overwhelmed by the 'Theatre of Dreams'...

The Eriksen chance I was waiting for the net to bulge, I was that confident. However, it wasn't easy, on his weaker foot and would have been a candidate for goal of the month. I'm not despondent though, we basically matched them and were a bit unlucky with the goal. A decent start, we know what we need to work on such as giving the ball away in midfield and there's every reason to think we'll have a decent season.

Can he take heart from botting out of 5 winnable tackles?

Take heart from losing? Do one.

Being pussy's, that is another big part of our problems.
I'm not sure that this is generally applicable.
All yesterday's back six and Mason like a tackle.
Dembele and Lamela can get stuck in.
Harry's no chicken.
That only leaves Eriksen and Chadli.

What we really lack is a leader. Bentaleb may fill that role eventually but who was gonna have a polite word with him yesterday and say ffs mate sort it out???
Nobody.

Bentaleb - tackle? His tackling and ball winning parts of the game is about as strong as his short passes. Overrated imho.

The glaring problem on the pitch yesterday (and last season) is the complete lack of pace in the front 4. No-one is able to get in behind, or really beat a man, so is to then create opportunities.

That is fine if you are creative enough (and few are), so Eriksen can probably be forgiven being no speedster. And Kane is obviously our main guy now. But that does mean that you need to find some pace from somewhere. Chadli and Dembele have none. Neither are they particularly creative. Chadli can finish. Dembele can beat a man, but with no end product. Lamela adds nothing (yet) and seems to have the unique quality of being deceptively slow. Townsend has the pace and drive, but little technique. Lennon...well god knows what happened there.

We really need (for example) Bolaise and Berahino outside Eriksen and Kane. Then we can start to test teams.

A lack of leadership at DM is also an issue - but I would be happy to persevere with Mason and Bentaleb. But not Dier, who is just too big and slow for that role.

But I fear if we do not fix the forward 4, we are going to struggle to score enough this season.
