Well we all know that form is temporary.

Defoe in my books will start flying as soon as he gets his next goal. His movement and contribution in the last two matches has been superb.

If he nicks a goal tomorrow then I see him getting double figures by the end of the season.

Jeez, hope you're right. I certainly feel like one of our strikers has to start firing soon for us to stay up in the CL places.

Yeah, we really do need him.

The fact that we're where we are without any major input of our strikers is amazing

Imagine if we had Tevez?

That's the thing...Defoe is not Class, do you see the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Milan, etc. showing interest?

That's a pretty narrow minded view isn't it?

He might not be World Class, but he's certainly better than he's currently showing.

We've got 12 games left. JD usually has a spell of abou that long where he can't stop scoring. Fancy starting to score shed loads of goals JD? Please!

I've been saying it for months, Defoe is one of those streak-type players, if he gets one, he'll score 8 in 10 games or something like that. He could well come into form at the right time for us.

At the moment though he's not pulling his weight and we might as well have played with 10 men on Saturday, he was anonymous :(

I really hope he goes on one of those runs, we're absolutely desperate for it! Starting tomorrow night would be very, very good (I'd drop him for tomorrow personally though).

If it is then there aren't many 'class' players about :)

Nope, certainly ain't. I'd say Fabregas is the most class player in the PL. He's had loads of interest from Barca, and some from Real. I mean:clap:. Just  son.

I know, I was quite surprised by that, and subsequently that he only got 12 minutes as a substitute...

That was ridiculous. And I think he stemmed his possible goalscoring run in doing so to be honest.

the strikers would be more likely to score if bale were playing. he breaks quick, stretches defences, he's direct and penetrating

Well they haven't scored in the games he's played so far this season.

I think we over analyze the reasons behind the strikers not scoring. I think it's pretty simple. We've outgrown them as a team, and they're not good enough anymore.

yeah, Defoe isn't the great hope people are making him out to be. IF he streaks before the end of the season, great. But we shouldn't count on him or Crouch since currently neither can score regularly

It's a tough situation with Defoe. I was at the game on Saturday there against Sunderland and to put it frankly, he was awful. He was outpaced by Bramble on two occasions and could hardly make any pass up to him stick. His off the ball movement wasn't very good either.

I don't agree with the notion that if he scores he will pick up form because that would be the case if he was playing excellently in the other aspects of his game but had been unlucky in front of goal. That is simply not the case.

Sadly if a player is a streak player and scores regularly from time to time that defines him absolutely as a form player as that is temporary whereas, as quoted on the OP, class is permanent.

I think I should stop posting on Defoe threads now as it seems like I've got it in for him, I haven't but I do think he's a confidence player and therefore a form player.

I agree with the thread title's sentiment, but would really like to see a little more good form.

Thing is, Defoe has been a prolific golascorer all his career.

Lets give him the benefit and start him tomorrow with Pav or Rafael, no crouch please....
