Tottenham Hotspur and Clement Lenglet have agreed personal terms on a three-year contract as the club remain in talks with Barcelona over a fee for the centre-back.

Oh right. Yes, much, much better to keep familiar players and expect different results.

Having said that, out of Romero, Lenglet, Dier & Sanchez if I had to keep two he'd be one of them.

As a backup I'd be fine with him, but the next two defenders that come in need to be ahead of him in quality imo.

Don't see a problem keeping Lenglet personally. He'll probably be more of a squad player and a good option to have if we're not under loads of pressure defensively. He's a good passer which is essential in Postecoglou's system. Yes, he has limitations, but it's not all negative like some of the others.

Edit; Appreciate the negative rating by the way. It's perfectly OK click 'disagree' which is neutral, but 'dislike'??

As a backup, it's a decent signing. Seems odd if we're shifting to a back 4, which is where he apparently struggles most. No idea if that's true but anyways, as a backup, it would greedy to expect much more considering our previous season.

Wasn't particularly impressive in his first season here but it can take players a while to settle in properly.

As a cheap option, it's not the worst move. But we definitely need another centre back signing for first choice.

Content with this. Not a glamour signing, but a much better backup/rotation option than Dier and Sanchez which will allow us to start their clear-out with a reliable bench option secured.

It's financially a very good deal for us also, which will give us some more flexibility with our higher profile/starting targets.

More blind hope than expectation but he apparently made his name as a defender in a high-line/back 4 system at Sevilla so I guess there's a chance it might actually suit him better than the kinda deep lying back 3 role under Conte.

Personally I'm concerned about him getting roasted in a high line but I guess it might get more out of his passing game, which I think was neutered by Conte's rigid passing patterns.

Not an exciting signing but still a preferable option to Dier, Sanchez or Tanganga for me, and we desperately need cover at LCB next season (2 CBs ideally).

Makes lots of sense, he's a better LCB than Davies or Dier, so you spend big on the starting XI CB and pick him up cheaply as backup, very doubtful you'll get anyone better than him for anything like that money and i'd much rather have one really good £40/50m starting CB and Lenglet than two half decent £20m CB's.

I can't have that he's rubbish purely based on the worst of us last season, every player looked terrible at times last season including Kane (away to Forest in the Cup) and with a properly functioning midfield in front of him i'm sure he'd look miles better.

Of course, if it turns out that he IS our starting XI CB then i'll be as p1ssed off as everyone else !

An upgrade on some of our CBs I hope he’s a rotation player cause his lack of pace doesn’t suit Ange’s high line press.

Interesting. I share your concerns though. He certainly gets a mulligan for last season if he does sign. As long as, and assuming, Ange has signed off on it then trust the process, as the kids say.

If true, it says that we're only getting one of Tapsoba & Van Den Ven.

He's a decent footballer but so slow must have an express train playing either side of him.

Bad decision, smells like Levy bargain bin signing. He will not work in a high line and will be a liability. We might not pay a high fee for him but he'll be on a lot of money, as a result we won't be able to shift him, the same as the other dead wood we have and can't move on.

I think we need to forget everything we think about our players. We don't know how our backs will perform in the new attacking system. It takes a lot of pressure of them if we are always on the front foot, and the same goes for our mids who have been coached to play safe as a first option for the last several years. Once these shackles are gone then we will find out who is good or not. Ange knows what he wants and I think will work it out pretty quick.

Nooooooooooo!

I thought we where turning a corner

He is not good enough, what’s the point in signing an average defender when we already have loads!

Incremental gains in the squad; is he better than Dier/Tanganga/Sanchez? Yes.

£12 million? No brainer IMO
