Barcelona still hope to reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur worth around £8.6 million as they look to offload Clement Lenglet this summer.

That is according to a report from Sport, which notes that Tottenham have offered £4.3 million for the Frenchman following his year on loan.

At that price, I would expect quite a few teams (including PL) to be very interested. He hardly set the PL on fire last season, but he'd be an upgrade for plenty of other teams throughout the top 5 leagues.

As I've said in other threads, I wouldn't want him as our starting LCB, but for the right price he's potentially a good option as our back-up. Signing him for £8.6m (or less) and selling Sanchez, Rodon & Tanganga would add some money to the pot for a top quality LCB to start ahead of Lenglet.

We will most likely end up with a £5+M price, i think for a backup option he is decent, last season he did chip in with a few goals and long passes out of the defense that lead to goals.

nice option to bring on if we need to turn a back 4 to a back 5 or 3.

without Europe competitions we don't need to buy anymore squad players. I would keep him if he was our player, but I rather us splash the cash on 2 of Tapsoba/Van de Ven/Bremer/Adarabioyo

My reasoning for this potentially being a sensible signing is if it frees us up to sell another squad play for more than we pay for Lenglet. We have a surplus of mediocre right-footed CBs, so I'd rather have Lenglet in reserve for LCB than one of them. Obviously the ideal situation would be to upgrade on all of them, but it would be unrealistic to expect us to end the summer with a perfected squad.

I think his wages may be an issue, I'm sure i read somewhere that they are quite high

Depending on the source, a google search suggests it could be anywhere from £90-145k, which is a lot for a squad player at our club.

However, a low fee could offset this and the wage bill for our defence overall is likely to go down significantly this summer. Using salarysport.com wage figures:

2022-23 defence:
Perisic - £180k
Romero - £175k
Lenglet - £97k
Dier - £93k
Davies - £92k
Porro - £84k
Sanchez - £67k
Sessegnon - £53k
Royal - £42k
Spence - £37k
Tanganga - £25k
Total - £945k

Potential 2023 defence:
(This is what I think is realistic this summer, rather than what I consider to be an ideal rebuild)
Romero - £175k
Tapsoba or other- £100k
Lenglet - £97k
Dier - £93k
Davies - £92k
Porro - £84k
Sessegnon - £53k
Udogie - £52k
Royal - £42k
Spence - £37k
Total - £825k (£120k reduction)
