I think he would help them short term, but their youth setup is playing tiki-taka since Cruyff days so young players can easilly transition to first team and play the same way, I doubt Pochettino changes that to pressing, most likely he would only do it to the first team. I don't know if they can keep Messi happy, he wants Lautaro Martinez (plus maybe Neymar lol) and they are skint. Still, don't think there's a better available coach right now.
Did you ever watch Guardiola's great tiki-taka side? There's no side in football history that pressed as fiercely and as well as that team.

Pochettino and Barcelona are a good match to be honest. His best shot at a big club he is looking for. I dont see any other openings around for now.

Yeah but he has got a double chance of getting fired there. Have you seen what has happend?

Barcelona are monster of a club in terms of tradition, history and in general ..... but right now imo i dont think its the right time for Poch to take them over, so much to do, so little patience from their fans, who know, who the president will be ... so much wrong with them atm its rotten to the core exactly what Pique mentioned. It would take atleast as season or two for the overall and transition, I love Poch and dont want to see him get screwed by not been given a fighting and realistic chance, they need to spend money for a proper overhall and the fact they are not in the best financial circumstances i dont want to see Poch screwed over again. He will not be given the appropriate time i feel, by the media , their fans or the board .... he would be walking into quicksand ...... IF he was given the right assurances and realistic time fair play. but i dont see that ge will get that, pressure from their fans, media and their board its just a real quagmire to be going into.... I really dont want him to fail (unless he comes up against spurs ;) :p )

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Should probably be one in General Football or something, like when ex-players are on the agenda.

Messi runs the club, basically, so it would depend on how he likes training twice a day.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this is now the catalyst for Messi to move on as well. Presumably he’d at least want to know who is coming in before moving on.

.....It's also another reason why the book was such a bad idea. Everything is written down for everyone to see and they'll be waiting for you to trip up so they can say "But you said....". Not only that but you break a cardinal sin in football - revealing what goes on behind closed doors with your players.

I really do wonder what Dier and Walker think about the book.

Writing a biography when you have achieved nothing and your career barely started is pretty wierd to begin with. You need to be pretty full of yourself to think that's a good idea.

So understandable. Why would they think Poch can lead them to honours when he himself has none of such credentials? No disrespect to Poch, but his ship had truly sailed after getting the sack. If he had manly quit after the CL final, such big jobs will definitely crave for him. But now, his levels are only Sevilla, Napoli type of clubs, where they also see him as a project instead of him seeing others as projects. Both sides need rebuilding..

But top clubs are going for project managers now, Chelsea, Utd, Juve, Bayern, Arsenal all hired inexperienced managers who hadn't won anything in their managerial career, he can do much better than the teams you mentioned - Poch is still a big draw.

A few of these big name players know its time to move on so i can imagine getting in a high profile coach makes them nervous.

Xavi is their mate, he might look after them. Poch has just come off a high profile spell in the premier league with relative success when you consider the club he was at so if i was a busquets or a pique I'd be worried that bringing in an outsider would accelerate my end.

The fit is good. He loves the city , uses the pressing style the club is known for and as an Argentinian he maybe able to get messi onside due to the connection.

Look at the squad. They don't need much, just some organisation and intent.

I’d not be surprised to see him change his mind about managing Barcelona. Doesn’t seem like he’s even being mentioned in connection with any other jobs right now.

Agree to your point. But those inexperienced managers you have listed have won numerous honours even as players, which for Poch, was far and few. Bayern's Hans Flick was actually a caretaker extended to end of season, which if he does win the CL, I am not surprised if he may be staying permanently. Even so, under Joachim Lowe, he has loads of experience already for winning the WC and Confed Cup.

But I do understand your point (at least better than someone who only spams for talking anything against Poch without even holding a point of his own), especially Poch really did exceptionally well to elevate us with limited budget and what not. To me, teams like Barca and RM are just galactico clubs (if we don't talk about the Covid19 impact yet) who may not be that far-sighted in vision and prefer instant success. And for that I really think Poch value will be so much higher if not for the poor results in the beginning of the season and gotten the sack, as the CL final itself was already a hugh achievement which many clubs will consider it to be.

Not far off what I expect our "heavyweights" thought at the time.

I doubt their ageing primadonnas want to do any defensive duties or hard graft. They would be Dembele'd within a season.

Come in. Sell Messi to rebalance books as he's old and having him is no longer a sure ticket to winning anything.

The Barca model that Pep built was about checking ego and making sure that no one was bigger than the team. Puyol as captain made sure this was understood. This understanding has been lost and they won't be great again until it's reestablished.

To be fair Pique came out and said if he is part of the problem he will leave.
