Wednesday. Wembley.

Croatia's starting XI includes Modric*, Corluka and Kranjcar. England start with no Spurs players, but with Defoe and Lennon on the bench.

With which set of fans do you join up?

I'm English but I'm joining the Croatians here.

*Yes, I know he's injured, but this is the likely scenario were he fit.

But Modric isn't fit so that's totally redundant. Plus Charlie will be suspended as he got sent off today.

Also you forgot that Crouchy is on the England bench as well.

So, to sum up, you'll be supporting Croatia even though a) you're English and b) they have one Spurs player who has never even played for us.

Not really very well thought out, eh Boris?

I support England and Spurs and the two are not exclusive of one another. I am proud when our players get picked for England, proud when we have a healthy proportion of English players at the club, and proud when they do a good job. There is no club versus country as far as I'm concerned.

Do those of you who don't want our players picked for England not realise how the status of the club is hugely enhanced around the world when others see our players on the England teamsheet, and how that can affect decisions relating to good players wanting to come to the club?

It's a win/win/win/win scenario for fans/players/club country. The times that it goes wrong ie: through injury are rare, and all part of the game. If that happens, man up, take it on the chin and be proud our players gave for their country.

How do you know our lads will start on the bench for England? Just because they didn't play last night it doesn't mean they aren't in the frame for Croatia. If anything, i'd say using SWP on the flank and the way Defoe seems to be scoring for fun at the moment, it leans more to resting Lennon and Jermain so they're raring to go in the match that matters.

I also think Glen Johnson blew a diamond chance yesterday. He looked lost out there against a team that, on paper, shouldn't have given him too many troubles but he never got going. Bet he's kicking himself this morning.

Reckon the squad for Croatia will be reasonably similar to yesterday but without Johnson, SWP and Heskey. Likely The Human Baked Bean or Lescott in for Johnson, and Lennon & Defoe starting.

Only other possible change i can see is Carrick in for Upson. No-one except Johnson really stood out as dissapointing for England but it was a few notches short of our "first choice" eleven.

About the club versus country thing... I've often thought whether I'd prefer Spurs to win the league or for England to win the World Cup and nine times out of ten I opt for Spurs to win the league. I think that it is just me being selfish, wanting my club to be successful like most fans would.

However, no matter how indifferent I am towards England friendlies and even qualifiers (thank you the FA, Eriksson, the prima donnas and McClaren for that), I have never been brought to tears by my beloved Tottenham. I came close to it during the lasagne incident but never actually broke out into tears like I do every time England are inevitably knocked out of a tournament.

So my opinion is this: my head says Tottenham, my heart says Tottenham, my soul and the very fabric of which I am composed of says England. It's ingrained in me deeper than I will ever comprehend.

By the way Boris, I must just ask, are you English in the sense you've been living in England for more than five years?

I voted Croatia because I want to see them at the World Cup next year, and as England are as good as qualified I'd rather see them and Croatia come through ahead of the Ukraine who I don't think are as good.

I'll be watching on Wednesday night, hoping for no more injuries to our players.

I am English and I will be supporting the Spurs players (ie I hopen they don't play/don't get injured if they do).

Relatively meaningless game and we have a much more important game a few days later.

Guess you already know which way I'm gonna vote Boris.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about the Croatian national team, just like I don't give a flying fuck about Cameroon, Honduras, Republic of Ireland etc.

I appreciate it raises the profile of Spurs if our players are in the international teams & we will benefit by them playing in the World Cup, but other than that who cares.

If I can jump up and down like a fucking lunatic when Judas scored goals that never were against portugal and Argentina, only for me to be gutted when they were disallowed, I guess it shows just how deeply I love England.

I went over to portgual for 2004 and went to the quarter final that we lost and went over to Germany for 2006 and went to the first four games. I'm pissed off that as things stand I won't be going to South Africa.

People from these countries? This isn't an all English forum you know.

I'm fully aware that this isn't an all English forum and the sentiment of my comments was not meant to offend anyone on the forum who is not English.

On the contrary in fact, as if the people on this forum from Ireland (etc) care that Robbie Keane represents his country they are more in tune with my thinking that Boris.

All I'm saying is that my support is Spurs and England, not Spurs and all countries which Spurs players represent, especially when that team is playing England.

Apologies if my comments were contrued as offensive to the non-English element of the forum - it genuinely wasn;t my intention.

fixed?

Mind if i ask, are you Russian by birth or heritage? And how did you come to be a Spurs fan? Family ties?

No problem, mate. Was born in St Petersburg, obsessed with English football from 1966. Later got fixed on Spurs. The best club in the world.

No family ties though. I can tell you there are a good few hundreds Spurs in SP.
