It could be that (misguided?) loyalty helped manufacture this situation. It could have been that certain members of the board wanted to replace Jol in the summer, but some ? fought his corner saying give him more time. When our season started dismally once again, the Jol isn't good enough members case was strengthened and efforts were made to bring in Ramos.

To behonest whatever the scenario I think we should stop pissing our pants about it. The board were right to persue Ramos or any other perceived top drawer manager (and one that has just won back to back UEFA cups, two spanish cups, euro super cup, spanish super cup, in his last 2/3 seasons is definately not to be sniffed at)

BC,

I like your first paragraph - plausible.

Disagree with second. Ramos did SFA before Seville, he barely stayed two years anywhere, and won nothing other than Seville and even they've had enough of him.

If the board are looking for a better manager, OK. But I doubt Ramos was the right man. But we can't get away from the facts that they were doing their talking and the wrong time and in an amateurish manner. I can't see how these factors have not adversely effected the team on the pitch.

:hello:

OK DFF and others.

Re Levy and Comolli's presence at 'Ramosgate' I've found two sources - or at least one repeating itself.

David Hytner in the Guardian dated August 27th:-

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2156953,00.html

and again on September 17th:-

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2170680,00.html

On each occasion their presence is stated as fact. While this does not make it absolutely gospel I've not seen the club rushing to deny the claim!

The club don't deny any and every claim by the media. It'd be a full-time job. During this whole saga they've only addressed/denied one thing as far as i remember (and one that wasn't specific to one outlet, just a generally accepted story throughout the media), that Jol was leaving. To address/deny anything more would be foolhardy. It's a slippery slope. We see them come out and deny one assertion, then start to wonder why they don't come out and deny another. And so on and so on. The fact that they've not denied a piece of conjecture from one paper seems pretty normal to me. In fact, i'd be more worried if they did specifically try and deny this one point. Or any other seemingly trivial part of an article.

As i addressed in a previous post, it seems fishy that Levy and Comolli (the two higher profile people) weren't initially reported to have been at this meeting. Only over a week later do their names pop up alongside the word revelation. Yeah, i'm sure the revelation was in fact that a story would sell a lot better if the two main antagonists were known outside of Spursdom.

However, this is largely academic. What happened, happened. Whether or not Levy was there. My educated opinion is that he wasn't there, others' is that he was. In retrospect, given what we don't know, it seems pretty trivial.

I've laboured this point in the past, but i'd lay the blame more on the team's shoulders than i would on the aftereffects of the escapades in Spain.

I agree that their presence is not really here or there - it's hard to believe Alexander and Kemberly were there without Levy's consent.

You did ask for a source! The grauniad is not famed for selling on footie stories!

As for blame I reckon that the board, Jol and players are all cupable to some degree for our poor start - to mention bad luck with injuries etc.

We'll only know how this plays out next may.

In answer to the OS, yep.

Since the last post we've tasted the sweet elixir of Champions League, hired one of the hottest management prospects in world football, built an incredible new training centre and is refusing to be pushed about by one of the 4 biggest clubs on the planet.

If Levy was a listed company, I'd be balls deep ;)

To further your point, they are top 2 anyway you slice it, I think.
