Sky commentary team can hear the VAR conversation and apparently the best that VAR could come up with was it "may have" hit Ayew's arm so they couldn't overturn it.

I thought I could clearly see the balls movement change after he chested it but it's one of those subjective decisions that even VAR won't be able to get rid off.

The hand touch is small but the change of direction on the ball is unmissable.

If the rule is that the goal scorer can’t touch the ball with his hand/arm under any circumstances then it is a blatant error.

Huge result for us tonight. Expected a tough game and thought we may have dropped some points tonight but big Ange guides us through once again.

Great to see Bentancur back tonight as well.

Can now relax and enjoy a great weekend of sport knowing we will remain top.

Footie, Rugby WC Final and then the Fury fight. Gonna be a good day sitting on my arse.

Palace comitted 19 fouls and got 2 yellows. The irony being that Ayew got his yellow for dissent and not any of the 8 fouls he committed in the game.
Agree. Normally a ref will book someone if the team are racking up so many fouls irrespective of whether the individual foul warranted it. Unsure why this ref didn't but it meant they kept on fouling and stopping our flow. Frustrating

Bringing on johnson and Porro over lapping in the second half opened up the spaces really. A subtle change but a significant one. Handball goal wasn't exactly clear and obvious. I can reluctantly agree with the decision

It wasn’t conclusive, if that was us I’d have been annoyed if the goal got chalked off.
I will be annoyed when a near identical goal of ours does get chalked off later in the season, as clearly the actual rules no longer matter now that VAR feels the need to make up for an earlier mistake.

I think the angles they gave for the review were all poor, or too far out.
The first four clips from behind the goal line ( the best angle ) looked obvious handball .. the other s 50/50 but they never went back to the first angles which were conclusive.
Weird

I would like to give a shout-out to Emerson. Thought he was very good on the left. Great sub by Ange at half-time.
He's certainly cemented himself as both our RB and LB cover this season for me.

Never would I have thought he'd look so good on the left.

We done the right thing though, and it was effective. We were baiting them to press and we played through them the few times they attempted to press.
I’m not saying we weren’t, away at Palace with only 3 days break in between it makes complete sense. As I said, sometimes you need to win clever. First half we were off the boil in attack which was concerning but second half we took control and slowed everything down.

It clearly wasn't blatant as it took so long to review. Commentators couldn't see anything, so to me it is not clear and obvious.
Our commentators called it as hands in real time, then called it as hands during the VAR check saying it was visible from two angles, plus the way the ball dies after the contact. I think the problem was from the angel shown there was one frame missing and that was the actual ball on hand.

I didn't think "clear and obvious" applies for a handball by the attacking team. My understanding is that if the VAR panel can see any contact during the review (which they presumably only undertook because they saw it in real time!), the goal has to be disallowed.

EDIT: But even putting that aside, if it looked clear and obvious to my untrained eyes, it must have looked even more clear and obvious to the highly qualfied and highly experienced officials.

Ange on at the mo on sky sports: two little school boys in Neville and Carragher trying to sledge Ange about copying Pep 😂 Neville said even I tried (in reference to his flop at Valencia). Ange in response: how did that go?! Then departs saying I’ll just go watch Man City. What a guy. As an Aussie gives it back and better too. We are so lucky to have him!
