The problem is that he tends to run onto the ball and stop. Slowing down play. As a footballer he offers so much more than the likes of Glenn Johnson, but he really needs to make sure he gets his cross in early when running forward on to the ball.

Yeah, if he could think more but actually do it on the move that would be even better. Maybe it'll come, in interviews he seems to have a curiosity about his game that could sustain quite a lot of development.

We could not have had a more tricky first game , ok agree palace are by no means world beaters but today first game back in the big time , but the players and supporters 150% up for it , pressed for every ball , the crowd applauding every throw-in . can u inmagine if this was played mid- feb when they are in the bottom three and heads down , the game would have been over by haft time . So a welcome 3 points in a match where in times gone by we would have picked up a point .

In my haste I forgot to credit Lloris who saved our skin a few times today and Danny Rose who started the game poorly but looked excellent at the end.

Hope Hudd gets a haircut after today's game

Say it quietly, but he might be the new Vieira :)

When will we get a Kuro?

Proper banana skin that. Promoted team away, was like a cup game, everyone bar Spurs fans willing on a Palace upset, commentators talking about the game like it's Aldershot vs Real Madrid.

Away win (without Bale), clean sheet, first penalty in more than a year, everyone looking fairly lively especially our new signings, open game to give everyone from the attackers back to the the keeper a warm-up

Got to be happy with that. Welcome back football

Good to get three points on the board from what was a tricky game. Slightly worried about the lack of creativity Gilfi is not a number 10!! Wasn't hugely impressed with Chadli but he has to be given time. Would like to see Townsend given a run of games. Thought Paulinho was outstanding really impressed by him. Hugo was brilliant not sure what AvB was doing messing around with the defence in last 5/10 minutes but still good to see Kaboul back. Hopefully he might get 90 minutes on Thursday.

I thought we were OK, no more. Last season's problems were all present and correct as the game wore on - too-slow build-up, difficulty with penetration, our best chances mainly from outside the box, panicky defending late in the game - but we have a dauntingly powerful and dominant midfield and the fastest goalkeeper I have ever seen, anywhere.

I'm bemused by those who thought Lennon & Walker were inadequate. To my eyes, they were a constant threat throughout the game and largely stifled Palace's left side. Lennon made one or two wrong decisions, but was penetrative and mobile and won the penalty. They work well together.

Rose also had a good game in attack, but was less conscientious about getting back and, plainly, he and Chadli have to spend some time getting used to each others' moves. Chadli improved as the game wore on, but took even more wrong decisions than Lennon.

Paulinho was superb in the first half, solid in the second. Both Capoue and Dembélé were reliable and, although we gave the ball away, we usually won it back. Sigurdsson started very well and faded.

Soldado is extremely difficult to mark and, when he gets used to the pace of the game, is going to cause all kinds of defences all kinds of problems.

It didn't really look like a team, which is no surprise. We looked laboured and lacking in creativity, as we have since the departure of Modric and van der Vaart. I think my main concern is the way that Holloway's treble-substitution disrupted our play. Instead of exploiting the spaces created, we failed to react and permitted Palace, Phillips especially, to put us under a great deal of pressure. But we got the necessary result and we can move on.

Positives:
Got the win and bedded in some new signings.
Paulinho was solid and I think will get better when he gets used to the pace of the PL.
Walker was excellent in attack.
Verts and Lloris are awesome.
Chadli got better as game went on.
We created numerous clear cut chance despite Siggy and Lennon having off days. With competition for places and them to return to form, the squad is looking strong.
Capoue looked very good as did Dembele in first half.

Need to finish clear chances and could do with a bit more creativity, but we looked a lot better than where we were start of last season and that season went ok. Much to improve on, but a promising start. I would give Townsend, Carroll, Defoe and Capoue starts against Dinamo Tbilisi to keep the squad fresh and competition for places strong for the Swansea game which will be much tougher.

Three points is three points. Winning is first, style second. I feel we are a special XI.

Blimey, I could be Mourinho.

If we played capoue and paulinho then we could play dembele further forward which would maybe stop him being conservative.

I would like to see us try this. He can shoot very well - as we saw today as well. But he could be slipping balls into Soldado for fun if he was playing further up the pitch - good enough to shield and hold the ball in those tight areas just in front of the opposition's defence, plus he could use his drive to burst into the box.

Capoue playing in midfield can use the ball well enough to get us on the front foot.

Wasn't too impressed by the performance but that was a real banana skin so result will do nicely. Chadli much better second half. Paulinho solid but not mom for me. Really liked capoue.

Siggy struggles physically in the central areas but takes up good positions so for now I'd keep him central he will get goals. Lloris and verts oozed class when called on.

Still we are too slow in our build up. Rose did quite well today tbf. Lennon and walker frustrated me several times being arrogant or careless in their link up because of a few early successes. Should have had more joy against poxey.

Very impressed today. Should have killed it off but ay well.

Paulinho was brilliant.
Capoue looks a cracking signing. Sweeped up well and he looks a very elegant footballer.
Bobby's running was encouraging, he'll score shit loads if we get it to him.
Much better from Danny Rose today.
Chadli got better as the game went on.

Overall, i'm delighted considering the players aren't fully accustomed to each other yet. What we saw today was without Bale or a quality replacement as well, we're going to be frighteningly good when the squad settles after Sept imo. Hopefully we can get Coentrao and Lamela in if Bale goes and we're going to have some team if those two transfers happen. I'm not sure we'll even be done then.

I'll throw in my own knee jerk post based on 30 minutes of football, but I think I'm going to really love Capoue

Verts and Chadli both said in the interview afterwards that we need to be more clinical and should be scoring more. Glad that our players see that themselves and admit it.

Might just be nit picking, but whenever Gareth Bale was injured, he'd wish us luck on twitter.

I know it might be a case of being gagged by the club, but he didnt do that today. Even BAE did it, and he has more reason to be angry with the club.

Classless if he chose not to IMO

He's not injured at the moment of course.
