I, for one, am really pleased that the Welsh national anthem, as well as the traditional English one, are both to be played at the Cup Final.
It may not seem very important but it is a case of national pride and the Welsh have it in spades. Apart from anything else, the Welsh national anthem is a really beautiful song as is Abide With Me, which is the true Wembley Cup Final anthem.
It's time Britain abandoned God Save the Queen and adopted something else, suggestions might be Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem for England, Scotland the Brave or the Skye Boat Song for Scotland and The Londonderry Air for either of the Irish teams.
Why do we have to acknowledge royalty at our major sporting events in this way anyway? Old-hat tradition, anachronistic and inappropriate in every sense.
What a nonsense if a team like Arsenal reach a Final (unlikely) and have to stand to attention to pay allegiance to our queen with so few British players in the team!
