Agreed. I doubt that the writer of this list is over 35, so he didn't see much football before the early 1990s. He also doesn't know much about our club, and couldn't be bothered to do much research, either. For example, Pat Jennings joined us in June 1964, not 1963 (he moved from Newry Town to Watford in May 1963), and re-joined us in the summer of 1985, eight (not seven) years after joining that lot down the road. When you see these preventable errors, you assume there are others there. You also have to wonder about certain players missing the cut for this list. Has the writer simply not heard of them? It's possible. This just seems like lazy clickbait journalism to me, something that's all too common these days, and not just in sports writing.

A few years ago, The Times published a 'Spurs Top 50 Players' list, and it was far more objective and seemed to be well researched, so it had far more credibility. I had that list on a disc, but it got corrupted, so I lost the stuff on it. If I still had that list, I'd post it here.

It's the daily fail.
Surprised they're not trying to engineer a move for Greaves to United.

Don't think Eriksen should be in Top 20 yet. Robbie Keane not even in the honourable mentions?

Here's my shot at this. Our 67 team was the first I saw live but it was close enough to our great teams of 1960_63 for me to include those players. I meant this to be just the top 20 but it ended up at 50 .

1.Greaves
2. Hoddle
3. Mackay
4. Blanchflower
5. Bale
6. Gascoigne
7. Jennings
8. King
9. Jones
10. Waddle
11. Klinsmann
12. Gilzean
13. White
14. Ardiles
15. Smith
16. Chivers
17. Lineker
18. Sheringham
19. Kane
20. Ginola
21. Archibald
22. Crookes
23. Mabbutt
24. Berbatov
25. Perryman
26. Knowles
27. Keane
28. Allen
29. Mullery
30. Peters
31. Modric
32. Alderweireld
33. Eriksen
34. Dele
35. Villa
36. Conn
37. Vertonghen
38. Defoe
39. England
40. Duncan
41. Dembele
42. Kinnear
43. Rose
44. Clemence
45. Hazard
46. Henry
47. Dyson
48. Lloris
49. Roberts
50. Hughton

Personally, I would have Mullers in the top 10. My favourite Tottenham player so it's very much IMVHO. Never had a bad game.

While there are some very good points in this thread, disputing aspects of the list, it was still a nice trip down memory lane.

Well, nostalgia in some cases, and whatever it is that feels like nostalgia for past players you're too young to have seen play.

Every single "spurs greatest players" list that i have seen has unanimously Greaves, Hoddle, Mackay and Balnchflower (in different orders) in the Top 4. This list is no different.

Just goes to show how undisputed these 4 are as the greatest spurs players ever.

If it were up to me, Lineker wont be there. Nor will Eriksen. Not yet at least.

Many people argue Villa shouldn't be there either, but it was because of him and Hoddle that made me a Spurs fan in 1981, so he has to be in my list.

I feel Gilzean, Burgess, Mullery and Waddle needs to be in this list. Maybe in place of Eriksen, Lineker, Berbatov (it pains me to omit him) and Kane (will be great but not yet for now).

Any list that doesn't haven't Ginola should automatically be made invalid.

Good to see somebody remembering John Duncan. A most under-rated player.

I'm old enough to include the likes of Ramsey, Burgess, Ditchburn and Harmer on my list.

Well I'm pleased to see two of my top three at 1 & 2 but might change the order. It's so difficult to say who was / is the best over the years but I'd say a big thanks to all who have worn the shirt and given their all for the club while it's been at the Lane.

Time to pass the baton to the next generation at the "new Lane"

I would love to know why Ginola shouldn't be on it.

Sorry Ledley King is with the top 3. Hoddle King (Greaves) from what many people had told me I can personally say because he was before my time,

Interestingly, Martin Chivers once referred to John Duncan as " a terrible player " . If you look at the stats Duncan's scoring rate per game was up around 50% which is better than Chivers ' . And Chivers played in much stronger Spurs teams than Duncan. I'm not saying Duncan was a better player than Chivers because he didn't terrorize defenders like Chivers did in his prime. Duncan was a goal scorer pure and simple. In mostly crap Spurs teams. Maybe Chivers was a bit jealous because he was on the decline when Duncan came in.

That's another reason to include Alfie Conn. Stood out in a terrible Spurs team. I remember him sitting on the ball in the home win over a very strong Leeds team that kept us up. A great moment, up there with the famous photo of Mackay grabbing Bremner by the shirt and Gazza scoring against Arsenal with his sock.

I probably should also have found a place for Tony Galvin in the top 50 , another underrated player.
