Tottenham Hotspur News - Daily Star issues apology to Eidur Gudjohnsen
NEWS | ADMIN | JUNE 9, 2010 AT 12:10 AM

The Daily Star has issued a public apology to Eidur Gudjohnsen after previously publishing a story that the striker had made an Hitler salute.
Gudjohnsen who spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham acted furiously to the report and has now received an apology.
A statement released by the Daily Star said: “On 4 May we published a story about Premiership footballer Eidur Gudjohnsen in which we questioned whether he was making a Nazi salute after he was photographed appearing to do so in a bar the previous evening.
“Mr Gudjognsen tells us, and we accept, that he was in fact acting out a rather rude joke in the company of his friends and that in making the gesture he intended no Nazi connotation whatsoever.
“We are happy to set the record straight.”

Classy paper that

I'm pleased to read that these scum bags apologised, even if it was like extracting teeth from them...."we are happy to set the record straight" my arse.

Only way to really hurt these douche bags is to sue them, money is all that they listen to. Sue and win and these dirtbags would at least think twice before doing it again.

The sad thing is, as was said by man on here at the time, he could have been maing a 'Nazi' salute in any number of contexts without t meaning hewas a Nazi...but the witch-hunt happened anyway.
When I was a nipper, for instance, giving a Nazi salute to someone was being bossy was a way of saying just that...everyone round my way did it, and it had nohing to do with 'being Nazi's'.
Or it could have been like the classic Faulty Towers 'Don't Mention the War' sketch ("Why do you keep mentioing the war"; "I don't, you started it";"No I never"; "Yes you did...you invaded Poland:rofl:").
And I'm sure if he was with his team-mates a fair few of them were black...he was hardly going to stand at the bar and say: "Oh yeah, by the way, I'm a Neo-Nazi...this is how we salute at rallies" was he:shrug::roll:

Sadly, these bottom feeders, get hold of a photo that is one of about 20 million a paparazzi takes in the hope that one of them will be a big score, ad then fitted the story to an unusual still.

Their apology is worth about as much as their quota of human dignity, and that ain't much.

They didn't question it, they flat out accused him of doing it.

We are happy to set the story straight? Come off it. What about the person you accused, is he happy for you to set the record straight a good month or so after it was published?

What a lame and belated apology. Sue the bastards.

We used to say that round our way when somebody was the skinniest in class - the 'bottom feeder' - and nobody took it as offensive. Anyway those hacks were probably just telling each other a joke down the pub about wrestling positions or something

As kids we used to do it in German class to make fun of each others or the teacher. And no I was not a nazi then nor am I a nazi. Nor did any of my friends turn into nazis.
What if a black players had done a nazi salute?

Hideous rag of a newspaper.

No-one will remember the (half) climb-down, they'll just remember that he was accused of being a Nazi. To be honest, I can't believe there are people stupid enough to read anything like that anyway.

That sounds really snobby, and I mean it to.

To be fair though, he clearly was doing a Nazi salute, not that I have a problem with him doing it as part of a joke.
