Meh if Levy is looking for a negotiator it would make sense TBH, he is going to be tied up (steady @Houdini, easy boy) with the the stadium etc for the next 3 or so years. So the way I see it Mitchell identifies talent, there is still the committee who approves the talent then the "director of football" does the dealing.

At the moment it's that rebecca whatsherface that does contract negotiations. She's more financial. Having someone that has good contacts and can negotiate is probably needed. But leave mitchell, poch and the scouts to decide whom we go for.

They don't have the power to decide the choice of a negotiator do they?

The club should be a bit clearer about why Baldini left, as I understand they were very pleased with his negotiations in 2013.

Won't the DOF be on the committee be on the committee as well? It would seem strange if Pleatly is on the committee but the DOF is not?

They would be on the comitttee as they would have to know who we are going for and how much of our budget we should allocte for each position.
Pleaty will be on the comittee as he is a scout and it will be up to him to get information on players.

Everyone should have a role.

Yay! another member of the committee blurring the lines. You just can't have enough of them really.

People want levy to step back from the football and concentrate on the business side. Yet you don't want anyone to negotiate contracts for players or prices for them? Should poch do it? Or would you rather have him concentrate on the team?

Do you think if we employ another sporting director (along with Poch, Mitchell and Broomfield and whoever else might be on the committee ) that Levy will actually withdraw from the transfer/football side?

I seriously doubt that will happen and we'll see the same transfer scenarios being played out with Levy's stamp all over them, except we'll just have yet another voice muddying the waters.

Sorry, but I'll never be convinced by committees overseeing transfer policy at Spurs, unless we have shit loads of money available to throw around like Liverpool.

I think his point is another person with an opinion on who we should buy. The manager and Mitchell should pick the players, and tell the dof to get them. The dof should not be picking what players we sign

I think with the culling of the squad and supposedly having players that the manager actually wants for once, it's even more important to have a simplified transfer process from now on.

We shouldn't need wholesale changes, just a couple of key players to make a difference incrementally every season. And these players should be primarily requested by Poch with help from his supposed right hand man Mitchell. Then it's up to the money men to do the deal. That's Levy/Lewis. We don't need another sporting director.

Who said that they would have a say on who we go for?

Depends what the role is. We have around 200 players on our books. Each will need to negotiate contracts etc... This is before we look at transfers and loans.
Sherwood used to look after the kids and baldini the seniors. Now we don't have either and that rebecca is doing it although it isn't her forte. So we need someone to look after that side.
No team in the premier league relies on just a manager to do all that. No top team in europe does. So why do you expect us to?

If I thought a sporting director was just there purely to negotiate contracts and transfer fees and Levy was going to step away then I wouldn't have a problem.

I don't believe that though. Ever since we've had the committee we've been beset by problems in our recruitment and I don't believe adding another layer now is going to work. We've been hearing the same guff about "clear defined roles" etc ever since AVB arrived and it's been anything but.

We've had dof's since arnesen. The only time we didn't was under harry and people were moaning that we were only buying old premier players.
All our best buys have been under a dof.

Whilst we made a lot of good signings under a DOF I was happier with Harry buying the players he thought we needed if Levy thought we could afford them, rather than get players in whom he didn't want/need.

Just because Harry liked buying older premier league players and players who he worked with before doesn't mean that Poch or another manager would. Besides, we have Mitchell now who is supposed to be the transfer guru so we don't need another layer of decision making imo.

Whilst it's true that other teams have a sporting director, I don't believe that they also have someone like Mitchell or indeed a chairmen who is so hands on with transfers like Levy. That's the big difference.

See that's the thing though. We don't know that it is another layer of decision making. We don't even know for sure we are going for this guy. Yet everyone is going into a panic as if they were a harikrishna on aeroplane.
