£20 million seems a lot with his contract only having 12 months left. But he’d be a sensible purchase.

I have said a few times that I reckon he will be on his way to City though, when we don’t sell them Kane.

I think it's that high because Southampton see him as crucial to survival, and that is worth way more than what the standard fee for a 29 year old player with 1 year left on his deal and his injury record would be.

But he's equally worth £20 mil to us as he sorts so many problems at once (backup to Kane, a striker who would compliment his game, homegrown etc). It seems a fair price for both sides when you weigh it up

£20m is a lot but I think sides with a bit of money will be interested in him given his recent form.

Problem is, there's little sell on value for him.

I agree with you that City is a more likely destination for him.

Media rumour Nuno wants to move us to 4-4-2 like he played with Porto.

I don’t think we will sign Ings AND keep Kane but id love it if we did and I’d hit up for us playing 2 strikers again as those times under Redknapp and even before that with Berba & Keane combo we played some nice stuff.

That being said, I’m not sure our team particularly suits 4-4-2 so we’d need to make a fair few signings if we wanted to go down this route.

Would him and Kane not be a bit slow?

Ings isn't fast in the straight-line speed sense but he's really really nippy and his acceleration is excellent. Don't think that would be a problem especially if we still have Son running in behind.

I was waiting for the Ings link. For me, sealing this increases likelihood that we ultimately let Kane go (for huge fee).

He also presses really well to be fair, a lot more than Kane has done for us recently.

Very intelligent striker, different players but similar Striker IQ to Robbie Keane IMO.

We could play Kane in the false 9 position with Son and Ings just in front of him in a 433. Would have to play similarly to Liverpool but we could be very deadly in attack.

May well keep Kane with Ings for one season in hope we do something great, knowing that Kane value will unlikely drop in a years time when clubs have more to spend.

I would rather us promote and develop Dane Scarlet before he slips through the cracks. I saw enough of him last season playing in a cameo role to see that he is quick, confident and very intelligent on or off the ball.

Would love this. Get Ings in, sign the long-term replacement to Kane next summer when we likely have to sell him. Ings then let’s the new, hopefully heir to the striker position, get brought along slowly in 2022/2023.

Or skip to the chase and sign Vlahović this summer and let him grow into the role.

Soton could really do with Dier, Winks or Sissoko, wonder if there’s any mileage in some swapsies?

Considering Nuno mostly used a 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 at Wolves, and the apparent focus on recruitings CBs, I have to think that we will see some kind of 3atb system with two up front. Kane, Sons, and Ings could all play in that system if Son and Ings are the 2 strikers, and Kane is the playmaking 10 we have seen this past year. Or Kane and Ings are the strikers, and Son is a 10 who creates opportunities with his pace in the middle disrupting the defense. Lucas could fill this role too. Then you would have Hojbjerg/Skipp at the back and Ndombele/Lo Celso/Alli slightly more advanced. If we wanted to change systems during the match to add offense, you could remove one of the CBs and add one of the Ndombele/Lo Celso/Alli trio from the bench. It may also mean that one of Ndombele/Lo Celso/Alli might be expendable and sold to fund some of the higher priced CBs we have been reportedly after.

I'm not saying I like this system, just that it is plausibly what Nuno is thinking.
