This is what happens when you sell a first team player. People will know that if they cause a fuss they can get a transfer.

There's a reason why The Sun and Talkshite have made it so ambiguous on who the player is. To get caller numbers and clicks up and guess what Arsenal and Liverpool fans are also clicking and calling furiously, if it is Rose lets actually see what is said in the interview if it's not then let's all laugh at Liverpool/Gooners

We cant sell another player to a rival, for any price.

But then what is the point in trying to keep anyone if we are just going to do nothing in terms of wages and ambition?

These bids for our best players are just going to be relentless unless we actually start doing something.

Like paying them what they are worth albeit the market is crazy. We can't let him go too this window but I can't imagine that going down well either.

Every Soccer AM type interview with a Spurs player they've all said Rose is the 'teachers pet' to Poch.

Surely he knows once you're in Poch's bad books you're g...oh

Which is proably a good word to describe our approach to transfers. We aren't just struggling to secure targets, we've completely failed (so far) to secure anything apart from a fat cheque from Man City, I bet trousering that wasn't complex :D

I refuse to believe that its such a struggle that in the whole wide world (well, the EPL at least) we are the only club yet to make additions to our squad of any kind and its bound to attract accusations regarding ambition.

Thems me onions, I think, the tablets haven't kicked in yet

Thats a fair enough point.

But we don't end up 2nd and 3rd in the league without showing ambition. We tried spunking money up the wall on multiple occasions and it rarely works out for us. Yesterday none us were even aware of Balde as a potential target (Aside from probably you and a select few) yet that was apparently extremely close. So it stands to reason there are other players being worked on, or are that close, or have fallen through.

We are also in an awkward situation where to improve on out first team squad we going to have to pay premium prices - i guess we could debate on whether we have the means to do that, and our MO as generally been spending within our means, which is increasingly hard to do. Since Poch was installed as manager that philosophy has been repeatedly stated alongside some astute singings - son, Victor, Alli, Toby, with some not so astute signings - N'ije and Sissoko, possibly, Jannsen and GKN.

We have heard from players such Morata that firm offers were on the table - but the strength of our first team as meant that they have looked elsewhere or they gone elsewhere because of money.

Again we could debate on whether that MO can work in the modern game - but it has served us well up to now under Levy's tenure . Pretty much everytime he has 'given' in into splashing big money around it is failed us. That is not to say it wouldn't in other scenarios but i think the terms lack of ambition, given what is happening around the club at the moment is ..well harsh.

Man City and Chelsea may make Football look like Championship manager but it really isn't. The other alternative is spending over the odds for average players which really doesn't help us, unless they are willing to be squad players.

I've been waiting for you to comment on our lack of transfers. It was tamer than I was expecting! 100% correct though obviously!

Anyone who thinks this is Coutinho is massively deluded IMO.

Rose basically gave this same interview weeks ago, and we've also had paper ITK to back it being him.

Good news is he's not saying he definitely wants out. Club has been quick to brief journos he's going nowhere. He certainly would never be sold to Chelsea regardless. Only issue is if these actions burn bridges.

Once again proves why we should be pushing the boat out this summer though. Levy will always stick rather than twist. If he continues to try and be too clever this well built house of cards will collapse in 1-2 seasons.

We need 2-3 quality players, not 5 or 6. We have circa £80m of incoming funds not including CL income and the increased kit deal.

If we bang £35m down on the table for Barkley tomorrow I reckon their 'stringing us along' would suddenly not be an excuse any longer. Pay the asking price for any of the RB targets (max €30m) it seems and that probably won't be hard to complete. Do that by now and this Rose interview probably doesn't happen...

this will be the funniest thread ever if it turns out it's Coutinho
I'd be straight over to the the Let's all Laugh at Liverpool thread if it turned out Liverpools star player was talking to The Sun

Wish the window was just shut now. I'd accept the squad we have now before things get fucking worse.

I wouldn't.

We've not improved and that is unnaceptable.

I have alot huge admiration for what Levy has done but it's a two way street with him (If that's the right term).

He sells Rose to Chelsea I'll drag him out of the club by his balls...

I've got a real soft spot for Rose and I'd hate for him to leave but I can see why he feels like this if it is him. He won't ever win anything with us the way things currently stand. This is the year where we should be throwing a bit more caution to the wind, paying the players what they deserve and backing them up by bringing in the talent needed to fill in the gaps. But here we are again. Scrabbling around a few days before the season starts, trying to hold on to our players and hoping for a last minute bargain who can cover every fucking position on the pitch.

Poch is ruthless. Rose will
If he's went to the paper, he's gone. Poch is ruthless and won't stand for it. Doesn't want players who don't want to be there.

Unfortunately our lack of ambition is going to destroy best side we've had in years. Dier, Alli..they'll all look elsewhere.

I agree with your 2nd point, but I'm not convinced by the Poch is ruthless Rose would go viewpoint. Poch isn't stupid. Rose is irreplaceable in terms of quality vs cost, so taking a hardline approach would bring the team no benefit at all. We would be left significantly weaker and we've shown no ability to close a deal this window.

I understand why he may want to go, but i dont like it based on previous interviews and his performances pre Poch, nor his approach to doing so. It has pissed me off.

Rose is pissing me off for possibly wanting to leave, Levys pissing me off for not pulling his finger out and now I'm pissing me off by being a moany **** about Levy and transfer window.

I feel you, bro.

Maybe he has told them? He mentioned it in an interview in May too

Here we are 3+ months later with a weaker squad. Doesn't look great
Exactamundo. If this article is going to be about Danny Rose, then we've already had first-hand evidence that he has expressed public concerns about our transfer policy right at the start of the window. Given that at this moment in time we have unarguably not only not gone forwards, but actually taken steps backwards (see: Walker, Kyle), in the window with not too long left to go (and virtually no time at all before the season kicks off), then it seems absurd to me that anyone would consider this an out-of-the-blue back-stabbing... when Rose himself quite clearly laid a marker of the ambition he expected to see at the start of the window.
