Personally I think its really harsh to judge any 23 year old player in such a way. Blowing hot and cold and being wasteful could be labeled at any young player apart from maybe the very rare "wonderkids" that are out there.

Is it still the case that players peak in their late 20's? I'm not saying he is a world beater but he is better than many other 23 year olds and shows that he could improve. It just opinion but I don't think any player of that age can be judged as the finished article.
He's a good player, gets his goals when he plays upfront. Don't think United would sell though.

I don't think he's as bad others make out either. I certainly would have him over Lennon or Townsend anyway, and he can play off the striker in a wide position. Agree on United not selling, and if they did he'd be overpriced being English an' all that.

He's just too much of a useful player for them to sell. As you said, plays multiple positions, works hard off the ball, quick, and homegrown. Would have thought Hernandez would be a more likely player to be off this summer (don't want him by the way).

I don't think it is a harsh judgement at all. He blows hot and cold, is very wasteful in front of goal and over relies on his pace. He is basically the Aaron Lennon of forwards.

But it is WELL fucking harsh. He is a good young striker, with a solid goal-to-apps ratio for England, and actually scores a goal per 143 minutes (the 7th best for a player with 15 or more appearances) and that's considering he often gets shunted out wide as Rooney and Van Persie would always get the nod to play more centrally. He is also well regarded by United fans for his work rate and defensive contribution.

With Rooney, Mata, Van Persie all in front of him, he should be looking to leave United, as given the chance to play for a team with lesser options on a central role (He has 7 goals in 9 apps for United playing centrally, either as a #9 or behind the striker), I think he can better develop his potential. And from what I've read United fans would be dissapointed to see him leave

Before I'm accused of being his mom or agent, I'm not even saying I'd necessarily want him to bring him in, it's just that these sort of hyperbolic statements are a real fucking pet hate of mine.

I disagree. It is not a very harsh criticism and every Utd fan I know do not rate him or Hernandez. In fact if he was playing in Span everyone would be saying we could do better.

His goal to game ratio isn't stunning especially when you consider he plays alongside some fantastic attacking talent and is encouraged to get in and try to score. Rooney is the player usually played out of position by Utd too.

rooney's played out of position? i'd say it's the total opposite, they play rooney in the position he wants and they have to fit everyone else(like mata and kagawa) around him where they're not suited. as for all the man utd fans you know(all two of them?), i'd say redcafe with their thousands of active members would give a more accurate overview of what their fans think of welbeck.

Like you would say Bluemoon gave a good overview of the attitudes of City fans or RAWK Liverpool fans?

Rooney has played in CM at times for Utd, I would hardly say everyone has been moved to accommodate him
