Are we actually going to make a profit on Benty? I know the price we "bought" him for was 16.5m but wasn't 4.5m add ons for England caps etc...? Could be another (suprising) good bit of buisness by Levy.

There are varying opinions on that; looks like we'll break even +/- about a million (and of course you've got to factor in the profit we made on Mido).

At the time we signed him, the Charlton official site stated that the terms of the deal were £15m in 3 instalment payments, plus up to £1.5m in add-ons.

Regardless, I'm confident that Levy will have done good business in whatever fee he brings in for Bent - we will certainly get the maximum amount of money that anyone would pay for him if Danny Boy is at the negotiating table.

i cant believe Villa have now come in for him. Obviously it is a good thing for us, but the way Villa go about their transfer business is shocking. Last minute maestros. O'Neill is a bit of a ball root to be fair.

Well it already looks like 14m to Sunderland, so you never know, if Villa are coming in late we can tell them "no, sorry Sunderland's nearly a done deal.... unless you fancy giving us an extra couple of million :-D"

The reason for the late arrival from MON might be that it is difficult to do biz with Spurs as you are after the same players as us. If a fee have been agreed with Sunderland, then it is easier for MON to accept that and IF DB wants to move to Villa then that can be pushed through.....

Depending on the players preferences - he might think Villa is a better option - unless he wants to be guaranteed playing time....

We should just tell Villa to offer more than Sunderland or bog off. If they don't make a suitable offer then it doesn't matter where Bent would prefer to go.

I was thinking the same thing last night when I heard the Villa were in for him. Poor Sunderland, it could be the Crouch situation again and they end up missing out again.

as TSH says unless villa offer more then sunderland then tell them to sod off considering the supposed issues that they have had when we enquired about their players. i would prefer selling to sunderland as i dont think they will finish ahead of us unlike villa who could well finish ahead of us again so i dont want to make them stronger

But it could end up the same situation as Pompey with Crouch. We need to sell to balance the books and we don't want to be sat with 5 strikers, and to be fair to Bent, i'm sure he would rather choose Villa over Sunderland. e might have no choice but to sell to them.

fair point mate but theres a few things in our favour. brucie has a good rep as a manager, its world cup year and bent has a much better chance of starting consistently for sunderland then villa (only imo) and sunderland are pretty desperate and are willing to pay high wages. i agree that if it was a straight choice he would most likely pick villa but he wants out and sunderland have the wedge so reckon he will end up there

I wish Darren Bent all the best in his career and hope he quickly finds a club suitable for him. The price tag was a rope around his neck, none of it his fault. Spurs have also not treated him well IMO and Redknapp was out of order with his comments about his wife scoring 'that goal'.

I reckon if Bent had the choice he'd be off the Villa.

I'd imagine it would be very difficult to do business with Spurs-we are slags when it comes to player movement, unlike MON who stood firm against Liverpool and Benitez. MON is now in a position to come in now that an agreement on a fee was accepted with Sunderland.

What the club should do if Bent prefers Villa, is to demand the fee be paid in One installment up front.

Slags when it comes to player movement?

If you are referring to the high player turnover, that is an unfortunate symptom of our high manager turnover.

If you are referring to the sales of Berbatov, Carrick and Keane: Berbatov engineered his move, refusing to play for us, so in the end when our very high price was met we had little choice; Carrick had 2 years remaining on his contract and was refusing to sign when he became aware of Utd's interest; Keane pushed for a move to his boyhood club and we received a hell of a lot of money for him.

As for MON standing firm on the Barry sale, look where that got Villa. They finished no higher in the league than the previous season, he left anyway having picked up a years worth of wages and for a transfer fee 2/3 of the original price.

I don't think he is hoping that is the case. He will play a lot more at Sunderland than he will at Villa. He knows he needs to move for PT not money or prestige.
