Darren Sammy hit 58* off 24 in the one-dayer against South Africa with 2 fours and 6 sixes. Strike rate 241.66.

He was batting at number nine. West Indies must be wishing they sent him in earlier. They were bowled out for 283 chasing 300 but there were 2 overs left and Sammy was left stranded. He was in the mood to chase off those remaning runs. He came in 2 places below Jerome Taylor - a man with no ODI 50's but nealry 100 ODI wickets. Sammy is an allrounder!

Can anyone think of other substantial innings (50+) by a player where most of the runs came in sixes? 36 out of a total of 58 here. 44 in all boundaries. There are many innings where most of the runs came in boundaries, but maximums I don't know.

I know Yuvi hit 36 in an over once, what was his total that day? And Sir Garry also managed the same feat once.

Who was the New Zealander who walloped plenty in short order in a test match against England once? IIRC they were chasing a huge target which didn't look on until this guy played an amazing innings. They still fell short but not by much in the end.

zuben i just watched that video out of masochism. why did we give him so much slow bowling when he was loving it so much? i understand the theory of attacking spinners buying wickets with runs and all that but this was just feeding the beast!

I imagine it was a bit of shell shock. Afridi was a newbie, started slogging them around ridiculously for a number 3 and they just didn't know how to respond! Who were your other options anyway at that time?
