Robbie Keane was never better than Beckham, ever. Landon Donovan is closer.

Edit: lol at Keane's stats in MLS, and not one EPL club wanted him, MLS must be the pits!
Even if you disagree with me about the Galaxy, you implicitly agree that Beckham patently wasn't even the best current player in the other four clubs that he played for. That makes him far - extremely far - from being the best player ever. Which was my original point.

I can't disagree ... except I think you are too hung up on the 'famous' part of role model
Can't really disagree, guess I'm coming from the natoinal role model type - that would come with fame.

Don't get me wrong, people like Jess Ennis, Mor Farah are absolute role models for working hard to reach goals, and probably earning a pittance doing it.

The groupthink culture of tattoos is the only thing I can blame Becks for.

Other than that I see him as a good inspiration. I don't think there's much wrong with people having fame if they have talent. It's the ones who don't that bother me.

I just meant that I don't think Scholes was much of a role model when it came to representing his country. Not saying it's worse than cheating on someone.
Didnt scholes stop playing for England as a result of being played on the left for Gerrard and Lampard, frankly I dont blame him tbh

Can't think of a better role model.

I can't find anywhere that this 'cheating' was confirmed, and regardless of that, if he did have a fumble with some hot thing, he wouldn't be the first, and it's hardly a criminal act.

In terms of his behaviour, it's impeccable - always.
I wouldnt say he is a great role model

I mean I lost all respect for him when he signed for PSG, I mean he signed for a club just because they wanted him to take the heat off the french press having a go at them for buying the world cup. Then he gives "half" of his wages to charity to avoid paying the 75% tax and making more money from shirt sales, deals and etc.

Meanwhile English Media is wanking themselves over the fact he is so kind:rolleyes: when it isnt really is a joke tbh. Also a act of charity, shouldnt mean you should parade around telling everyone you are doing this, it is up to the recipient to do thank you for your work.Though the last point is just a modern day pet hate, though are some footballers who arent all about doing charity for good PR.

That said in terms of him of football, he is the greatest footballer ever off the pitch and getting his image right and etc. I know they called George Best the 5th beetle, but I dont think he was as good as Beckham at controlling his image and etc.

Though his footballer career has been a joke since he left Madrid.

You have to question the judgement of people who voted for him.

I've respect for Beckham in relation to the way he conducts himself given the amount if attention he's (been) given; but best - sorry is it English, or British player as thread opener? - English player for me will ALWAYS be Hoddle... I know I'll never witness a player that great at WHL in my lifetime: and, yea, BETTER than Bale - all day long
Edit. Just looked at thread properly. Hoddle definitely up there of those I've witnessed. Along with Cryuff; platini; Maradona ; messi; best; numerous others - but not beckham I'm afraid
