What was the point in signing him last summer? We were led to believe he was a set piece specialist aswel as a great croser of the ball but I am yet to see that. He has, for me, been the poorest player for us this season so far. He cant cross, tackle or have any pace yet we paid £15m for him. Seriously confused with this signing....

I was a little surprised that we went after him so much, but I think he is a good player and hasnt shown us anything near what he can do. Would help if he had two or three targets in the box if Juande is taking note, also needs a marauding right back to overlap and support him. He cant do it all on his own. He is our Beckham and needs a Neville to get the best out of him.

I think it's far too early to start dismissing new signings. We're stuck in a rut and we're expecting new players to slip straight in and dig us out. Sure, it would be nice if it happened but it hasn't. We can only improve and while we are doing so the new guys can find their feet.

Was so happy when we signed him and expected much more...But im sure he will come good!
He was amazing for blackburn when he was there thats why he got the england call up..saying hes the one to fill Beckham's right mid position.

it doesnt help that we refuse to play him in his natural wide right position - RB??? Come on!!!

Agree with that but my point is we had a more than capable RM in Lennon aswell as GDS who could play there, so why spunk £15m on him when that cash could have been used to ger a striker, DM, LM or a CD....

I thought he did well at right back and it was a decent tactical move by Ramos considering how the game was going. Bentley didn't have a lot of defensive duties as Hull basically sat back. He managed to get forward and put in our best crosses.

Players don't turn useless overnight.

Bentley-buy was overhyped - like all 'young talented British players'.

Although he isn't as good as he thinks he is - he does possess the basic ability to deliver an accurate cross and take a long shot from 20-25 yards.

Sadly even basic skills like these are lacking in our squad.

The remedy is to set his mind free - if recent reports that he is unhappy with playing RB is real, then he needs a mind check. Good players can play in ANY position - if RB is where he could best deliver, then do that.

I hate the rigidity of British players. You are just good at what you do. It doesn't matter where on the field. Football is fluid.

He was good the last two seasons, he was making inroads into the England squad, and his deadball game was getting good at Blackburn.

Unfortunately he was used to relying on a pacy left wing (Pedersen) and a pacy striker or two or three (Derbyshire and McCarthy and Santa Cruz), and a fairly solid midfield at Blackburn. (I say fairly, I mean more solid than ours at the mo i.e. Tugay, Emerton and Dunn are a little bit harder than Jenas, Modric and Zokora).

Since he has moved here he has been subbed here and there, he is not match fit and he is clearly not settled in and comfy.

All this is bound to put pressure on him.

In fact, in Jol's fifth place team of two years ago he would have been perfect to come on and shake things up a bit if Lennon was tired or injured, or if we had to pack the midfield a bit more.

You can't really blame Bentley for our poor performances. Him and Hutton could do quite well together.

Imagine:

Pav and Bent up front with Lennon in the hole free to zip to the left or right whenever the moment comes.

Modric in support and link up on the left, Zokora in the middle and Bentley on the right occasionally chipping in with a well placed cross or freekick.

Now put Bale, King, Woody and Hutton at the back and we might have a team that could have done a little better than two points this season.

As it is we haven't even tried to play the diamond, when IMO it's the only way to get Lennon and Bentley in the same squad and cause the opposition a heap of trouble.

Bentley will come good a lot sooner than Luka I reckon.

Whether Pav comes good at all is another question - the communication issues must be hard for him.

Why is everyone blaming Bentley when its clear to see that Ramos is quickly ruining him... Do none of you remember what he did for blackburn last year when he was playing week in week out on the right of midfield...

Ramos needs to give him a good run of games on the right to get his confidence back.

But that would mean dropping Lennon, who has been one of our better players this year.

Players should be picked on form and on merit, not because they need a run in the side or because of reputation.

If he wants to wear the shirt and get a prolonged run in the side, he needs to get his head down, work hard, pick his game up and earn the right to play week in week out.

We were led to believe? who by? I wasn't led to believe that by anybody at Tottenham I understood that to be the case by watching him play over the last few years.
You make it sound like the club has introduced this unknown player and told us lies about his abilities when in fact he was a well known English international playing regularly in the English Premier League and someone every single one of us knew about.
If you are saying that you thought he was all those things only because the club led you to believe it then I find it hard to believe.

Woodgate isn't a centre forward but desperate times calls for desperate measures and so Bentley was stuck at the back. Can't see him featuring there again much.

The point was that he was better and more consistent than Lennon.

This season has been the worst I've seen from him, form is temporary though and hopefully he'll rekindle that.

Lennon need to play somewhere else in the midfield, whether it be in the hole or on the left. At least we know what Bentley is capable of when a manager has faith in him and when he gets 90 minutes each week. Lennon is not an effective right winger as he cannot pass the ball... If he could do this then I would play him on the right every game but because of this I think that Bentley should be given the right midfield and lennon should play elsewhere...

Lennon is our best and most effective player at the moment, why move him to accomodate the average and overated Bentley.

I didn't want Bentley because all he does is cross, cross, cross and has nothing else to his game, no pace, no movement etc.

His early crossing style worked at Blackburn because he had one of the best header's of a ball, Roque Santa Cruz in the box, who would get his head to it 9 times out of 10. Santa Cruz made Bentley look good because they suited each others games.

Here at Spurs, we are trying to pass the ball, keep it flowing, even if it isn't quite working yet. We are not the type of team to keep launching crosses in constantly like Bentley enjoys doing.

He doesn't fit in with out style of play imo, neither does Bent. All imo of course.
