We seem to have a good relationship with Ajax discussing transfers (Vertonghen, Eriksen, Sanchez) so I don't see why we won't be able to land Neres. Of course Ajax want a hefty fee

I was watching this highlights video against Willem and not sure what to think. Silky skills for sure though and decent eye for goal. He only joined Ajax in January last year, probably not ready for a move.

Similar to Sanchez he just joined this year and has only played professionally this year so I can't see selling him being high on their to do list. So it would not only be a hefty fee but also another long protracted saga.

When Nickspursman mentioned him much earlier today I dived into YouTube. Must admit I had never heard of him before. Watched a few vids and have to say I’m not especially impressed. Another maybe player. I bet there’s players in the leagues here that could do a job like him.

Neres was a reasonably big buy (12m Eur) for Ajax last year , considering their low spending structure. Last season, he was bit part player , hardly made any impact. But, on year on, he seems to have improved well. Still very very raw and nowhere near PL level IMO.

I guess £44 million for him is way too much. Not saying he is not worth it. It made sense to splash 40m on Sanchez, but I cant see any club spending this much on Neres.

He looks quite tricky and fun to watch but incredibly raw, and I think you can find many players like that in Brazil at his age because it’s how they play as kids.

If we wanted a player like that - for the money that any of these European teams would want to sell to an EPL club - we’d be better off just going to Brazil to find the next one in the ranks.

I’m not convinced that This is the sort of player that Poch wants though.

*Waves a work permit at Eddie*

When I said ‘ranks’ I meant the ones capped by Brazil at youth level, who qualify for a permit, of course :sneaky:

I assume Neres was such a player when Ajax signed him for £10m?

He'll take a lot of time to bed in. I genuinely think we wouldn't be able to rely on him immediately or for some time. Malcom is much better at this moment in time (Yes I really want Malcom now)

Am sure a year in the ajax training regime on top of existing skills could mean he close to hitting decent levels?

There are different regulations for other countries. Spain and Portugal for example have very close ties with many South American countries due to them being ex colonial nations/trade links etc. Brazilians don't need work permits for Portugal for example as far as I'm aware. No idea what the rules are for the Eredivisie.

What are the rules in England, or is it case by case?

I've only watched him once (and of course the obligatory highlight vids) but he seems to me to be exactly the sort of young prospect we should be taking a chance on. Vastly superior to Moura already and I also think he is a better prospect than Malcom but that's just my opinion.
