Am I the only person who thinks his agent has put us in the mix, trying to get other clubs like (arsenal) to make a move. I don't think spurs will buy Villa but I would love to be proved wrong.

Makes sense to me. It wouldn't be the first, or the last, time that an agent has used us as a stepping stone to attract interest. The only way this is going to work is if we're the only one in for him. Arsenal have been rumoured before and quite frankly, he'd choose them over us as they pay better wages, can tempt him with linking up with a fellow Spaniard in Cazorla who'll play on his wavelength, more likely to be the star man (has to contend with Bale over here), and has CL football next year.

I can see this one being one of those that drags out well into August. Could easily end up somewhere like PSG, who will pay him big wages. Surprised Monaco aren't linked. :shifty:

But would wenger offer villa a contract more than a year long given his age?

This might not appeal to Villa...

Villa has firm offers from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham. Player prefers Arsenal. Barcelona want 14M. Decision coming in weeks.

£14mil? One year left on his contract, surely they've got no chance of getting that? Especially taking into account the fact he's stated he will allow his contract to run down & leave for free.

common sense tells you he is out of our league as a perm signing. Hs age, wages, fee considering it's his last year of contract tells you its not a realistic target without CL footy and our chairman.....

I think we will get other signings done early, but think Barca will hold out as long as they can,
be surprised if anyone pays 14m for him, its gonna be a mad scrap on Transfer Deadline Day.

If they want him off the books it makes little sense having this dragged out until the end of august considering he earn about 500k a month.

Makes more sense settling for a little less early than keep paying his wages and even risking him walking for free in a year!

i imagine that's €14m/£12m which is the quoted price everywhere else.

I'll be a very sad man if he goes to the lot down the road...

Edit: I'll be a sad man if he goes to Liverpool as well. He's too good to play in red.
