I think we need 2 strikers in this window (including Villa if he signs). Neither Adebayor nor Defoe will be happy playing 2nd fiddle and, crucially, neither of them perform anywhere near their best when they are only starting intermittently. Therefore we need a 2nd striker who will be able to complement Villa and (probably) Adebayor from the bench and young enough to benefit from only starting 1 or 2 games a month, unlike Ade and Defoe whose form seems to suffer in that situation.

You know what? I actually think Adebayor & Villa could compliment eachother .. I've got nothing to base that upon, other than the season Ade had when he last played with a 'class, intelligent' footballer. The movement & intelligence of VdV seemed to really bring the best out of Ade, so maybe the even smarter movement & thought of Villa could do the same?

Yep, I think we'll need to address getting a younger option in too. However, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we only got Villa as a striker in this window, then used the rest of the season (or just up until January) for Baldini to source the right sort of young alternative for later on?
This is my thinking.

Really focus on this window to help the starting XI. Address some depth issues, but all in all obtain players who will help now. If a solid deal is out there for a young player take it. Otherwise use January to make those youth additions and buffer whatever we missed/need after this window.

I also think Ade could have a solid bounceback season with a player like Villa.

Not trawling through the previous 60+ pages so apologies if this already discussed;

Where would signing Villa rank in our all time signings? Better then David's? Klinsman? Ossie & Ricky Villa?

I personally think he would be our biggest signing, a truly world class player who's been there done that. Think other teams would sit up and take note.

I imagine his list of awards and trophies would be bigger than anyone who has played for us before, or would at least be close. (y)

edit: thinking about it more, he's not been at Barca that long so I have no idea

I disagree about him being one of our biggest signings of all time, as I'm not sure of who else has shown real interest in him.

If completed, I'd liken his signature to that of Raul for Schalke. Sure, Villa is a bit younger than Raul was, but his injury has probably shortened his career by a year or 2. So we're essentially talking about a great Spanish player, at both club and international level, past his best but still very effective, moving to a league where he is unproven.

Don't see why the injury would necessarily have an impact on his career. Broken legs tend to be different to muscular or ligament damage. Once they're fixed they're fixed. If anything a season out resting may help him prolong his career.

I'd say it's at least as big a signing as Klinsmann was. Spains all time top scorer. £40m only a few years ago. Won everything in the game.
I remember Klinmania. As a 13 year old boy is what made me decide I wanted a piece of this. I wasnt into football then.
Villa could have that same effect on the next generation of kids into spurs fans.

Put them together and we have a deal! Just wanting the Spurs announcement now.

Well that was my thinking too, but there's also a reason I put the '?' at the end of each sentence. As you say, if both those things are sorted & agreed, that means ALL parties are now happy & the deal is final (bar the signature). So where's the influx of news in the media?

Didn't someone (JJ?) say that the media get it a few days after it happens? Maybe it'll come out on Monday, with announcement Tuesday or at some point in the week.

Yeah JJ did explain about delays in info a short while ago. Let's just hope there's something in these stories.

I'm choosing to be optimistic and there is something (too many articles/tweets etc. for there not to be). Also optimistic on an announcement next week. Whether that'll be one, or both, I don't know. Head says one, heart says both will hug it out after the final and reveal next season's home and away shirts.
