I know we are being linked with him (probably just because he's spanish) but anyone who has watched him play over the last few seasons would know he is the nuts. really is just a shame he would never join us.

lots of talk about a new formation, maybe even a 4-3-3 and i would just like to put forward this.... just imagine a forward 3 of

villa....berbatov....keane

we have been regarded as having the best strikeforce in the league for the last two seasons now but seriously with that strikeforce, the defence we SHOULD have next season and huddlestone, jenas (if on form) and another midfielder we would be the most attractive team in the league and surely one of the most feared opposition of any team.

if anyone hasnt seen it yet i advise you to search for villa's goal against italy. pure technique from a striker in his prime.

we wouldn't get away with playing 3 upfront often & I can't see any one of those 3 wanting to 'do a Darren Bent' and sit on the bench.

We will only go for Villa if Berbatov leaves. Bent has done enough to show Ramos that he can do a job aswell.

Stop playing fantasy football for a minute and think about the practical side of things.

but if what your saying is true then one of bent, keane or villa will be on the bench anyway, and as we have seen with defoe and keane that the two little guys doesnt always work. which would mean we would be in the same position as we were when defoe was here but without the class of berbatov.

and as for your "fantasy football" quote, why couldnt we and indeed why shouldnt we be looking to achieve fantasy football? even playing any one of villa, berbatov and keane in the hole behind the other two would create plenty of chances. we would lose width but lets be honest, with malbranque cutting in and lennon deciding he doesnt want to use his pace anymore and would prefer to run inside, it wouldnt be much of a trade of, especially with bale and hutton bombing forward.

we're not going to spend £20m on a striker unless Berbatov goes so it's a non-starter.

you're right, one will be on the bench, but I can see Bent doing it for longer than Villa, Berbatov or Keane.

There is no reason to buy any striker if we can keep Berbatov.

Also we struggle to keep clean sheets with a 4-4-2, scoring goals isn't a problem, so why try and accomodate 3 forwards?

We will only go for Villa or a player of his calibre, IF one of our 3 forwards leaves in the Summer.

We won't be spending 20m+ to then have 2 players warming the bench. We won't also play with 3 strikers, unless its a tactic Ramos believes will suit during a game ie If we are losing.

if we bought Villa and kept all the others, the 4 of them should try to accept the rotation among them..
Juande Ramos had 4 fixed figures ( Palop, Poulsen, Dani Alves and Kanoute) and all the others were used in the rotation system either in places or positions..

for example; They have plenty of strikers: Kanoute, Luis fabiano, Kone, Chevanton, Adriano Correa, Kerzhakov all used in rotation..
as for rotation in positions; Poulsen ( CB and DM), Adriano Correa ( RB, RWG, CF), Luis Fabaino ( CF, RWB),......etc...
in the end that resulted in a steady form in the league and the different cups..

that vigrous rotation is well-known in Spain.. I remember Espanyol were playing in the UEFA cup last season with a team totally different (from GK to SS) from that they played with in the league

it is well known in Spain, but you could say Benitez brought it here and it didn't work.

Villa's stock is on the rise, he's hit a good run of form. I'd love this to happen, but come on, we do this to ourselves every year and we're just kidding ourselves. I'll be optimistic about results on the pitch, but as for transfers, if they happen I'll be off the wall, but until then I'm not getting my hopes up.

we won't get Villa, so I don't know why we have so many Villa threads/posts on this and the front page forum - ok I do know why, it just baffles me :) ok it doesn't baffle me either, just makes me a little sad that there's more talk of something that won't happen than there is over vital things like the six months financial results - but hey it's a free forum etc :)

and yes by contributing to a Villa thread I'm guilty too, but usually I do ignore all these fantasy threads - but for once I've decided to speak out in defence of rationality :) (ok I normally do anyway :) (in my view of the world at least ..... time for breakfast I reckon :)

yes, that's true but he reached the UCL final twice..If we reached UEFA Cup final each year like Spanish teams do and Rafa do with liverpool in the UCL, that would be a good progress..
In addition we may be fighting for the 4th position of the league like Liverpool does every season..it's satisfying for us i think taking in consideration that Ramos will bring us the right players unlike Rafa who brought some half-decent players like Mark Gonzalez, Fabio Aurelio, Lucas Levia, Skertel, Kuyt, Pepe Reina(to some extent).....etc and insists on using them in the rotation system.

Ramos is better than Rafa as the latter doesn't have fixed figures in team ,ike Ramos was doning at the Sevilla, which affected the consistency of Liverpool (like playing levia instead of Gerrard in some games !)..
Also his unrealistic rotation in positions like playing finnan on the left while he had Riise and Aurelio on the bench!

How about buying Bojinov? He was injured early in the season for Man City but he is a prodigious talent

good idea. Let's also offer Ben Essoue Ekotto a 5 year extension to his contract while we're at it.

I say we stick with the players we got now.

The more time they spend playing together the better they get - SPURS were one team last year against Chelsea when we kinda luckily won at the Lane and completely different this one at that frantic 4:4 and the final, when they we Chelsea defending in their own half for quite long periods of time.

There is a lot of room for improvement, we also got a lot of young talent - and we can all see the Ramos is going into the right direction.

Don't demand loyalty from the players and at the same time live in a dream land where you act like a "FIFA 2008" owner.

How many league titles did Ramos win in Spain? And also why did Ramos play Tainio at RB and LB when he had Chimbonda, Lee and Rocha fit earlier in the season?
