Is a huge weakness in our team!

Verts and Kaboul or one of them with either of the other two will make a huge difference. I know it wouldn't be right to level either of the goals at their door today but they make so many basic mistakes as a pair it's frightening and i spend half the time watching them from behind a pillow!

Daws has all of a sudden got into the habit of trying to win the ball far too high up the pitch, when he fails then we're in all sorts of trouble. He surely has to realise he has no pace at all so he has to defend with his brain, stay on his feet and keep goal side because he's not catching anybody. And Vlad is so easy to run off the back of, he just doesn't see it or read it coming and he takes far too many risks for a CB.

But it's not individually so much that's the problem, it's as a pair and that they simply don't work and coordinate together, they are playing as two individuals. One is so often higher than the other, one drops off and the other is stepping up, they don't pass players on to each other etc etc. Any good forward or forward pairing are going to expose this combiation, just watching how they DON'T work together scares me half to death!

I simply can't believe with Kaboul's injury problems we won't bring in a CB this month, even if it is just a loan. I know TS said there was no truth in the Lescott rumour and personally i'm not a huge fan of Lescott's ability but even he is preferable right now to play with one or the other and Verts when he's fit.

If we can address the problem at CB in the next week or two i think we're good enough everywhere else to have a good second half of the season, but it really does need sorting.

We don't have a choice at the moment. No point in complaining .

If you read what i said you will see i'm not complaining, i'm saying we need to address this because its ahuge weakness. The window is open and if its not Lescott then it needs to be somebody else coming in because with Kaboul's injury concerns we are always just an injury away to Verts to having to field a pair that just doesn't work together.

But what we need we simply don't have - none of our central defenders are blessed with pace, they are all far more suited to playing a deeper line, not tracking pacey runs from attackers and, as an example with the Woolwich' first goal today, we can't rely on Walker to stay focused enough to do that job either.

If you need to cut a piece of wood in half, it doesn't matter how many hammers or spirit levels you have, you have to accept you need to have a saw. Without Sandro marshaling in front of them, we need to face facts and stop pushing our back line so far up the bloody pitch.

Aside from buying who do we play?

Capoue filled in well but is slow too.

Play a yoof?

No as i put we need to bring somebody in even if it's just a loan, if Lescott is as rumoured available then although i'm not his greatest fan i think we should do it, we cant afford to be left in a position going forward whereby we are forced to play Daws & Vlad as a pairing.

Kaboul's continuing injury concerns leaves us with basically 3 CB's, 2 of which can't play together.

They wern't overly high today, they just don't function like a CB pairing should.

I totally agree.

It needs to be addressed but I feel a huge problem is the fact that Daws is club captain and a allegedly a big personality in the dressing room.

I don't think it matters who you pair with Dawson hes just mr average both in possession and without, love the guy, commitment and loyality, great in the air, but hes dire positionally, dives in too much and far too slow to allow us to ever achieve our ambition.

He's better with Verts because Verts is a senior player and will talk to Dawson and play as a pair with him, Vlad who is new to this league and still learning it will also be better with Verts for exactly the same reasons.

Ok yes I am a Daws fan (maybe not as a starter) but come on if were pointing fingers today Vlad and Rose should have the red faces, I am not one to point fingers but you started it :D.

What we need to do is find a back line that we can settle on for more than a match at a time, then maybe we can start to see some cohesion between them and Lloris. A lot of you do seem to be overlooking the fact that no two of our defenders have had a chance to develop any sort of partnership or understanding with each other for quite some time now.

Ideally Kaboom would've recovered and we'd have that one piece of the puzzle in place as, i think we can all agree, a fit kaboom starts without question.

I think many have forgot just how good a fit Kaboul is.

Strong, fast, technically sound, positionally aware.

He would be the perfect partner for Verts IMHO

my comments on Dawson aren't based on todays game, though i think he wasn't any better or worse than Vlad today, Rose was just dire and noway is he good enough to be our first choice leftback long term, I'd be happy to keep Dawson at the club but don't like to see us so reliant on him. just shows what a poor transfer window we had. (I don't mean that in terms of the players we signed, i think we did good but we certainly didnt strength the right areas).

these two haven't really had much chance to work together but I wouldn't like to see this against the top sides as i think we would lack too much pace through the middle.
