Scored two goals on his debut away from home against Seattle Sounders. Seattle Sounders average attendance in 2013 was around 44,000, brilliant stuff. Dempsey scored for Seattle Sounders.
I actually think Defoe will be a legend out there. He's still young enough to break all kinds of goalscoring records in that league and most probably will. Djimi Traore
Don't blame it on the Biscan, don't blame it on the Hamman, don't blame it on the Finnan, blame it on Traore. He just can't, he just can't, he just can't control his feet. One of the best terrace songs ever.
Fair play to him and I am convinced he will score an absolute bagful in that league. Maybe I should book a trip over to see my cousins in Toronto and see if I can catch a game...complete with all my Spurs regalia of course!!
y'know what, the more i think about this, if he plays this right it could be the smartest move of his career and might set a trend for more English talent to go and play in some of the less promoted leagues around the globe.
If you look at the England team the one big difference compared to... well, virtually every other international side for the last 20 years, is that virtually all of our squad play in this country, whereas Spain, Portugal, Holland, Germany, Italy, Croatia and more recently Belgium, etc have their players trading in countries right across the globe. Not only does that give the other teams players with experience of other countries "style", those same players bring a wider range of attitudes and strengths to their national sides.
I firmly believe that were the Premier League not so high profile, if it wasn't so far out of whack financially with the rest of Europe, let alone the rest of the world, then a lot more of our home grown talent would find the prospect of going abroad a lot more appealing and, in doing that, would offer our International squad many of the benefits that those other, more successful, entertaining teams have.
I lived in Toronto for 8 months and I loved the city and the people. I watched Toronto play against their rivals Montreal and lived a few blocks from BMO field. I'm happy he went to Toronto, they have a nice Spurs link with Ryan Nelson as the manager. Darren Anderton is the host for the EPL telecast as well. Nice Spurs link in the city. It appears with Robbie Keane at LA, Friedel and Dempsey playing for us, we did a pre season tour there, Spurs are raising their profile in North America. That can only be a good thing.
