What's shocking to me is our basically two-tiered side.

If we start with

Lloris
Doherty-Sanchez-Dier-Reguilon
PEH-GLC-N'Dombele
Bale-Kane-Son

which looks to be our strongest side,

the bench is going to have Hart, Davies, Toby, Moura/Bergwijn, Lamela, Vinicius?, Winks/Dele.

Aurier, Sissoko, one of Moura and Bergwijn and one of Winks and Dele would miss out on the squad altogether. That's crazy to me, imagine leaving senior internationals with the pedigree of a Dele, Sissoko, or Aurier at home on a regular basis. Tanganga, Cirkin and Gedson most likely would only make the bench in heavily rotated sides as well. Jose will have the chance to rotate a lot.

If Dele goes then we become a little light in terms of attacking CM depth so hope he stays as if he does there are very few areas we could improve apart from CB but we all know that’s the final position we are trying for anyway.

Thanks for Putting this together.

Squad is really shaping up now. I feel like whatever happens with Mourinho (obviously I hope he's a huge success), this squad is going to be competitive for the next couple of years at least.

First XI:

Lloris
Doherty Sanchez Dier Reguilon
Hojbjerg
Lo Celso Ndombele
Bale Kane Son
Second XI:

Hart
Aurier Tanganga Alderweireld Davies
Winks Sissoko
Lucas Lamela Bergwijn
Vinicius
It seems that Foyth and Gazzaniga are on their way out of the club so aren't included here. Dele obviously is on the fringes of the squad at the moment but if he stays I'm backing him to work his way into that second XI, with Lucas being used as a super-sub where he makes the most impact anyway.

That's a squad that can win some cup competitions IMO, especially if you add Skriniar to the mix.

I think we finally have two very good XI's. If we play 433 which I think Jose will.

Lloris
Doherty - Dier - Sanchez - Reguilon
PEH
GLC - Ndombele
Bale - Kane - Son

Hart
Aurier - Tanganga - Toby - Davies
Winks - Sissoko
Dele
Lamela - Vinicius - Lucas

I'm sure people will be frustrated with X player not starting in certain games but after years of being frustrated about the same players being overplayed, I'll take rotating players.

All I know about our squad is we finally have OPTIONS! Options for what formation to us. Option for what CB's, what midfield 3, what wingers and what striker. Very exciting.

Bergwijn instead of Lamela in the second team (and on the left, Lucas on the right) ?

I actually forgot all about Bergwijn somehow! That's how many options we have. Lucas played on the right towards the end of last season, in the Arsenal game he did great. Lucas, Lamela and Bergwijn I imagine one would be coming off the bench on the weekend and the other two start midweek for cup/early Europa games.

Lloris
(Hart)

Dier -- Sanchez -- Toby
(Foyth, Tanganga, Davies)

Doherty -- LoCelso -- Hojbjerg -- Reguilon
(Aurier) -- (Ndombele, Dele, Winks, Sissoko) -- (Sessegnon)

Bale -- Kane -- Son
(Lucas, Lamela) -- (Vinicius) -- (Bergwijn, Dele)

If we sign Skriniar then he slots into the first 11 and Foyth will be out.

There will be a couple of fairly high profile players not even making the Bench if all are fit

If we do sign Skriniar...

GK: Lloris, Hart

RB: Doherty, Aurier
CB: Dier, Sanchez
CB: Skriniar, Alderweireld
LB: Reguilon, Davies

DM: Hojbjerg, Sissoko
CM(8): Ndombele, Winks
CM(10): Lo Celso, Dele

RW: Bale, Lamela
CF: Kane, Vinicius
LW: Son, Bergwijn

Squad: Whiteman/Austin, Tanganga, Cirkin, White, Gedson, Lucas.

One of Lucas/Lamela could theoretically leave by Monday, as we do have one too many players for those front three positions. I’d be tempted to loan out Cirkin and White, but Tanganga is too versatile to let leave on loan. I can see Aurier staying now, and he’ll know that he’ll have to improve if he wants to usurp Doherty. Gazzaniga has to move on as we need a HG option as third choice. Sessegnon and Foyth look like they’ll be leaving on loan, and one of the third choice GKs should be moved on.

Dele is still the odd one out. I put him as Lo Celso’s backup, but he’s a very different player to the Argentinian. Arguably, his best role is just off the striker, potentially as an inside forward cutting in from the left, but Son is impossible to shift from that position.

Also, in an ideal world, we sign a genuine defensive midfielder to compete with Hojbjerg in that holding role. Sissoko is a useful player but doesn’t really fit into any of those midfield roles. He does a job for sure, but we need a specialist. Someone experienced could be useful even just for a season, which would allow Skipp to be transitioned into the squad next year. The likes of Javi Martinez and Khedira, who are both available, could be interesting short-term options.

Overall though, this is one of the strongest squads we’ve had in a long time, with competition in most positions. Even if we don’t manage to sign a CB, it’s still be an outstanding window.

I think we need to get the idea of an A & B team out of our minds with 2 players in each position. We need to have the ability to flex between different formations depending on our own availability and the opponent. This can essentially be achieved by having a left back that can play as a left Centre back, which we have.
