This has only come about again because the other big European clubs are scared of the financial dominance of the Premier League.

The named English clubs are greedy enough to fall for it and join in.

If a super league happens then those clubs should be banned from being involved in domestic football by their FAs and not allowed back in when the league invariably collapses. That will make them think twice about it.

Hole in one, yep. Leicester I think would've been a fascinating experiment to them - the media and matchgoing fans in Britain went wild for it, the people paying most of the money did not. The lesson they learnt (rightly or wrongly) is that there's zero benefit to them in letting the likes of Leicester even compete.

And that’s why you see the top clubs get the majority of the refereeing decisions go there way.

I’m surprised the premier league clubs would be up for this, it is as clear as the dick on your head that the non English teams see an opportunity to leaverage the popularity of the Premier League to feather their own nests

I’m concerned that this is happening at the same time Scudamore is retiring from the PL. As much as I don’t like him the organisation will be weaker for him departing. It couldn’t come at a worse time for them.

1918-19: Despite having come sixth the season before and literally been in a different league to Tottenham, Arsenal plot to move into a newly expanded league containing the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool. They don't deserve it, but it's amazing what secret talks and high-level corruption can achieve.

We'd be totally fucked. We would have a huge debt with tv money slashed. Probably struggle to fill the stadium.

We are exactly the type of club they want fucked too. We’ve dared to change the status quo by challenging for the top without being funded by dodgy money. You can see it from fans of the other clubs and how much they hate us for bothering the champions league places and the glee when we didn’t win the league. If the fans are like that then you can bet the other owners are even more hating of us.

the cost of going to the games is going to be high, costs a fortune just traveling in the uk.
most of the italian grounds are half empty. Can see this being a big flop.

If these "elite" teams try to breakaway and form a super league, they are doomed to failure. Not so much in monetary terms but the obvious blow back they will receive from their own fans. It would be horrific for the owners. The fans simply would not put up with having to follow their teams around Europe every few weeks. Some of these teams would really suffer, as in they would lose an enormous quantity of games and their fan base would just fall away even more. Some fans could even abandon their team altogether and just adopt a new team in their nations remaining top league.

This entire idea is based on pure greed and is utterly idiotic and poorly thought out. In my honest opinion it will never happen.

It's business so it's not personal. The teams the old guard hate for challenging the status quo are PSG and City. The fact that these teams are included is merely a concession that, due to their vast wealth, they can attract big stars. That glamour, prestige and REVENUE is what the old guard desperately want to keep. Preferably within their own cossetted bubble. Spurs can't offer that.

He seemed up to his eyeballs in the UEFA corruption yet still got the top job at FIFA. Sounds like he’s a perfect fit to be involved with those two clubs!

..and to add to my previous posting on this issue. I remember fondly the days of :-

1) The European Cup
2) The UEFA cup
3) The Cup winners Cup.

As a fan I loved those competitions. You had to win the league to play in the European cup BUT the UEFA cup was where the fun was. All the very best up and coming teams battling it out. Those were the 100% stone cold glory days of European club football. If you won one of those tournaments you bloody well deserved it. I miss those days badly..

Can I just say, the amount of fucking shit spurs have been getting, from the media, on social media, from all fucking corners the amount of shit we are getting for not competing. Look at this, we are doing things the right way, we are not cheating, we have chosen our future over the present because we want to do things the honest way and can't have both. Now are the media going to continue calling us a shambles and side step this Man City issue? Are we going to see them have any ounce of fucking integrity in their reporting or they going to keep going at us.

Wish it would go back to that format. It was far more exiting times for European football.

Would be fun hearing about arsenal losing every week though. Their fans moaning all the time.

Wouldn't work on it's own. The teams are just too unbalanced now. No fun in watching Man City destroy Dinamo Tblisi, Anderlecht etc until they finally get some competition in the semi finals. You'd need to get the league back on a more equal financial footing too.

Of course they’re going to sidestep the city issue, just look at how bbc are reporting it, and sky burying it as you say.

And of course they’re going to keep going at us!

Just the way it is though, it doesn’t really matter

National teams are under no obligation to pick any players at all. If the English FA decided not to pick players from this super league, it would be their choice. It would be just as expensive and risky for the SL or players to challenge this in the courts, and would take years, by which time a playing career has gone by and a whole generation of footballers have potentially missed out on a World Cup etc.
Realistically how many English players would be in this super league?
These 5 clubs gave up on English players a long time ago - they are foreign owned, foreign managed and have just a few token English players if that.
The next logical step was always for them to move to a foreign league.

Of course their fans will say isn't it all about your team having the best players possible and playing the best teams every week (and we've all bought up to that idea to an extent since the premiership started), but I resent the idea as a neutral that I am meant to have some sort of allegiance to these teams as their franchise happens to be currently situated locally. I'm meant to want to watch their games.

Is it just me, but our participation apart, I gave up on the champions league years ago. They don't represent me, they don't represent my area, they don't represent the country. They have become global parasites, sucking the life out the game and the money from our pockets. Kill them. Kill them all. Have a nice day.

I believed at the time of abramovich putting one and a half billion into Chelsea that it created a great imbalance with other premier clubs. We now have the arab money at PSG Mancity Juventus and to an extent Barcelona with Quatar side door influx of money .The difference between Abramovich and the arabs is the Russian wanted to rule the premiership and the arabs want to rule the world. It is these people and none of them English who are on a course to ruin football as we know .I realise that the cash is going to come from worldwide T.V.compnies to fund this venture and I for one swear on my oath that these T.V.companies that sign up to pay for this charade will not get one penny of my money and I pray that spurs play no part in it whatsoever because even if they are in it I will not pay my money into this betrayal of the game I love .
