From our local paper:

'Former Premier League star Simon Davies signs for local village team Solva - and will take his turn to wash the kit'

A FORMER Premier League star who earned tens of thousands pounds a week has signed for his local village team - and will have to pay £3 a week for the privilege of playing.

Simon Davies, the former Wales skipper, put pen to paper at Solva AFC’s home game on Saturday, having made a cameo appearance for the club during a friendly last summer.

The 34 year-old previously played for Peterborough United,Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Fulham and won 58 caps for Wales.

He captained Wales during their 2010 World Cup qualifiers before announcing his international retirement the following August.

The midfielder, worth around £4 million in his prime, will now have to pay £3 subs like everyone else on match day, and take his turn in washing the kit.

And rather than trips to Anfield to play Liverpool and Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, Simon will be facing the rather more low key journeys to Prendergast Villa and Milford Athletic.

What's with your thread title? (Am I really the first one to ask that?)

Yep.

Simon Davies was known as 'Digger' and Solva is just down the road from where I am.

I watched Digger play last Saturday against my mates.
He basically just strolled around the pitch and didnt get out of neutral let alone 1st gear. He had one free kick that he absolutely pinged but the keeper managed too tip it over. He played a few decent balls through to the striker but Solva's pitch is one of the most exposed in the county (basically on a cliff top) and it wasnt really conducive to a decent game!

After the game he was in amongst all the boys back in the pub and not a hint of 'big time Charlie' about him.

My Aunts husband is his second cousin and he sorted out a nice gift for a different uncle a few years back when he was still at Spurs - he got the whole squad to sign a personalised shirt fot my uncles 50th.
