Bale really needs to be knocked into shape a bit and told to help Benny out more.

Bale was SUPPOSED to be a left-back so even though he is a winger nowdays he should still be educated in the art of tracking back more than most wingers are.

Grown men grinding and shaking their arses to pussycat dolls songs on the terraces makes me shiver. Seriously, think about it with a real crowd! Scary.

My wife and I have have an imaginary Dinner Party guest list of rich & famous (dead and alive) peoples.... I am seriously starting to think I need to add Benny to the list. Not only would he represent spurs, I think the guys seems funny, charming and surprisingly intelligent.

And 30K people singing Dont you wish your leftback was BAE would be bloody brilliant.

Why would you want to have dinner with a dead guy? Wouldn't it put you off your food?

Ekotto is the Don of Tottenham

he is a good defender no question. PSG with all their millions targetted him in the summer. OK he takes the occasional chance in defence, but people's opinions seem to be clouded by the heart in mouth moment rather than any actual damage done! I have seen him cover for both centre backs and the right back at times (well that shouldnt be happening should it? lol). And yes he doesn't get much help from Bale.

To be honest i'd be more worried about Bale's defensive capabilities at LB than i would BAE's.

Great read. Love his attitude, so refreshing and honest. I'm glad he's our LB, I think he does a great job.

Now I am scared to death that should Chelscum succeed to entice Modric there, Benny might wish to play with Modric there, replacing the aging Arsely Hole.

If he can resist that should it ever happen, then he'll be a true legend.

If I wasn't a completely normal and level headed individual, I would get a full, back covering Disco Benny tattoo.

That's just an illustration of how much I love the guy.

Agree with your post. Strangely enough I never feel remotely worried when Benny is on the ball, even if he is prone to the odd moment of madness.

1) Yes, but as I've said to you before, you (like many supporters), set up this imaginary and literally impossible idea of any player being able to play a 100% perfect game, and then overdo the criticism when players fail to attain that standard.

There's a big difference between expecting perfection and just being realistic about a player even though he wears a spurs shirt and gives philosophical interviews.

Yes, of course there is...but insofar as I have observed, he makes an occacional mistake, but he is remarably composed on the ball and uses it well the vast majority of the time, and is definitely an improvement on any LB we have had in the last decade or two. You seem to reach an opinion about a player, and then look to the occasional mistake to confirm it, rather than acknowledge inprovement or general consistency - sure you'll disagree, but it would seem to explain the manner in which you seem to view quite a few players more negatively than the majority.
And the philosophical interviews issue is a totally seperate one that you seem to be conflating.

I think it suits you to try and pigeon hole me in that way. I compliment and criticise most of our players, I've probably been more critical of Bale than Ekotto. I have given Ekotto plenty of credit for what he does well and criticism for what he doesn't. I could just as easily say that you have an almost child like ability to not see your favourite player has flaws.

This is what I said about him after the Liverpool game:

I don't think yesterday's game was average, I think it was better than that. You don't often see him attack as much as I saw him attack yesterday, and partly I'm sure that was helped by Liverpool being down two men, but to be fair to him, he was also instrumental in our domination and performance.

I actually think Ekotto has many redeeming qualities, he's always been very comfortable on the ball, he has a superb passing range and uses it. He can also play very incisive passes - and has done at least two or three times already this season, he is good in a tight space. Technically very good and has intelligence.

I think he occasionally lets himself down defensively by not concentrating and being tenacious enough. But I also think that the best lb's in the EPL also get forward more than he does.

Part of the problem is Bale, I accept that. He doesn't help Ekotto enough defensively, doesn't work hard enough for the team and this restricts Ekotto and exposes Ekotto at times. And I also think this should be addressed by the coaching staff, as we would be a hell of a lot better for it, as Ekotto invariably delivers quality balls in the final third.

I accept upgrading Ekotto would not be easy, and would mean very top drawer. I just don't think he's the best in the EPL by at least 3.

I think you flatter yourself a bit in imagining I would want to pigeon-hole you at all - I really couldn't care less. I have noticed, with more than one player, that you seem to focus on errors - if that means I have pigeon-holed you, then I guess I must have :-|
