We've all read Gibbsy's opinion that Spurs are a side full of "Spice Boys" and to a certain extent he has a point.

Since February the players on the pitch though are very different. we finally have a big character in goal who won't shy away when he makes a mistake, with King and Woodgate we have two captain like characters centre back, Ekotto oozes professionalism and quiet dedication and Corluka is similar. In midfield Palacios is the never say die character we've needed since Freund, for all his ability Modric never seems anything less the dedicated professional and with their speed and energy I find it hard to believe Jenas and Lennon aren't committed athletes even if their style of play isn't full of grit. Defoe is always determined and with Keane is similar but with captain qualities. Crouch impressed me with his determination last season when Portsmouth could have been in serious trouble.

Our best ever prem season came with Jol taking a pretty average side with some strong, determined characters to 5th place. I believe we have finally got this character back and this season could be reminiscent of that very happy season.

Even the Spice Boys are going to do well this year. Not for the Spurs badge of course. They want to play big time World Cup Charlies so they may even put in some effort.

Plus the clubbing ban and drinking ban will work wonders with our players.

A game like tonight will help to find out what the current squad is made of. We have always been push overs away from home but players like Palacios and Crouch will be massive for us away from the Lane. As 'Arry said in a recent article Luka and Charlie are model professionals and I imagine someone like Gomes also fits into the bracket. I'm glad there hasn't been wholesale changes and I think that has allowed us to carry on from the form we had at the back end of last season

I think we have a nice mixture of characters at the moment, but the key may be that they have been together for a while (for the most part) and that they are a bit more experienced.

Someone else posted that there were only a handful of games last year where we were the older side. A little maturity coupled with the addition of characters like Palacios on the pitch and Crouch will, I hope, make the difference. The response to the last game from the bench was fantastic and a really good sign.

If we could guarantee that either Woody or Ledley would be fit for a given game then we'd be laughing.

With the team we now have and playing the fast passing and running off the ball game we now are, there is little doubt in my mind that we're in for one hell of a season. Sebastien, Wilson, Naughton even Jake Livermore (I know that he's on loan) have all added steel to our midfield and defense and I see no reason whatsoever why we shouldn't compete for one of the top spots.
Also, and perhaps more importantly, 'Arry is a no nonsense manager that has lived and breathed football ever since he ws a nipper. When he was named our manager I thought that although he would be the right person to get us out of the mire we were in at that time I wasn't so sure about him being the right person over a long term but he's gone on to demonstrate that there's much more to him that I and many more originally thought. He's brought sanity and a footballing nous to the club where every change he's made so far has been inspirational.
So, answering your question, YES we now have the character to succeed and succeed we will, that you can bet your bottom dollar on.

I agree with Donny, tonight will tell us a lot about our prospects for this season. Yesterday Chelsea went up to Sunderland, were one nil down and came back to win well. We need to show similar character.

When we had our best season coming back from behind was the real key, all the good teams when they go a goal down have the character/talent/attitude to get back in to the game. I think we have gthe types of character now to achieve this.
