Does the best team = the team that wins?

I think we have become the best side but Leicester have been the most consistent for the last calendar year. They won 8 out of 10 at the end of last season and have continued like that for the whole of this season. In fact if the season ran from that point they would win the league by 20 points or more.

I hope with every bone in my body that we can do it, but if they win they will deserve it.

The best team doesn't always win the World Cup.. the European Championships or the Uefa Cup or European Cup.. examples of that are Brazil not winning 82 WC, Denmark & Greece winning Euros.. Red Star & Liverpool winning the EC.. However when it comes to the LG whoever finishes top at the end of the season might not have played the best football though they have definitely played the most effective football so are the best team over a season

The league table doesn't lie when it tells you who are the worst teams and who are th best teams.

But it cannot tell the whole truth between two teams that finish within touching points of each other. The difference could be something as incalculable as a dodgy plate of lasagne . And at that point how can you take that as the definitive statement on the question of who is better.

If the league title is decided in the last minute does that mean one team becomes better at that exact moment in time.

Anyway. Let's hope we win the league and accept the best team accolade on both fronts

But that's what I said. Small lies...

But here you are judging things by your own criteria, in which you value cohesive team work and ball retention higher than winning in some cases.

99% of football fans just want their team to win first and then worry about their style of play later.

The best team is that who wins the most over 38 games, in cups it's different, hence Greece in 2004 or Holland not winning in 1974.

I assume you just didn't read what I actually wrote, which was the exact opposite of what you said I wrote.

I said best is subjective. That couldn't be further away from me judging things by my own criteria if it tried ?

And I don't value cohesive team work and ball retention over winning, I value cohesive teamwork and ball retention because they have statistically and anecdotally proved to be vital components of sustainable winning, especially for clubs who can't purchase points.

If we were seven points ahead of Leicester with five games to play, then this thread wouldn't have even been dreamed up.

Therein lies the answer, some twisted theory that the winning team in the PL isn't the best because it's not my team.

Of course i will still support the idea that Sunderland should be given a place in the CL as they played quite well today.

Exactly. A team full of potentially the best players out of form is NOT the best side that year. It really is as simple as that.

Chelsea have the same players as last season. It's pretty obvious that they should be doing better in the league. In fact it's pretty obvious they should win it. Instead they lie mid-table with the same players that formed the best team last year. I doubt you'll hear many Spurs fans saying that Chelsea are a better team than Spurs this year.

I'm extremely disappointed at the sheer lack of graciousness from my fellow Spurs fans regarding Leicester. It's sad.

Virgin Media advert on a bus stop I went past the other day;

"Leicester. Proof that the best isn't always the most expensive."

Annoyed me at first, because subjectively I think we've played the best football consistently. But you can't deny that they have played some excellent stuff at times as well. And to disparage them as a team that just plays "hoofball" is completely disrespectful to what they look likely to achieve. If we were down in fifth, with the Gooners or Chelsea seven points behind them, we'd be cheering them to the echo and buying into the whole fairytale scenario. They've never won the thing in their entire history, so if they do get there, without being "found out" as I always believed they would do (and am surprised they haven't), let's not come off as a bunch of plums and be willing to applaud the massive achievement it would be.

And the "most expensive" bit made me chuckle a bit, thinking about Chelsea and City.

Greece European champions says no

Mourinho's Porto and Inter CL wins. Di Matteo's Chelsea CL win. Unfortunately the best doesn't always win. That is a cup knockout competition though, with a league format it's different. It's all about consistency and Leicester have been exactly that. Still time for them to bottle it though!

Leicester played good football early on this season so I don't think it's fair to rewrite history but we are certainly a different class now.
