Dos Santos scored 2 for Mexico in a 3-0 win over New Zealand in the lead up to Mexico's CONCACAF Gold Cup defence. Will be interesting to see how he goes and how much media will be created by the tournament especially with Chicharito involved. I'd guess a good tournament could help a move for him.

Interesting that he needed a translator?!

I so desperately wanted Gio to be a success here. It seemed like a real coup at the time when Ramos and Comolli brought him in. It's gutting that he's been such a major disappointment, especially when it's blatantly obvious that there's a talented player there. And if he were to transfer his international form to Spurs, he'd be a major asset.

Damn you Gio, you make me sad.

I guess the language barrier is one of the reasons he struggled here. Also apart from Palacios we don't have any Spanish speaking players but he was signed then Gio was loaned out. What a shame about Gio.

He was never played upfront, he was played on the wing here, not his best position

has he actually ever done anything over a sustained period of time for him to be regarded so highly? Had a few good games for Barca, a few for Mexico but thats about it?

His best position seems to be on the right hand side attacking midfielder (or centrally) in a 4-2-3-1 formation. That's where I've seen him do his best work.

If we were to switch to that formation (which looks like could be an option for us, if we had someone who could play up top on his own) then Gio would be an asset because I think it could play anywhere along the 3 behind a striker.

Seems like we will never see the best of Gio though. Looks almost certain he will move on this summer.

Hopefully a good Gold Cup will generate alot of interest him in, and allow us to get the best deal possible. It is a shame it never worked out for him

Must be one of the best off-season players in the world. A bit like my brother, he wakes up when the day is over.

He more than has the potential I wonder if you had seen any of the previous gold cup matches to make such a clueless comment. Contrary to what most of you think, Harry with his so called man manager skills couldn't get the best out of him, where I honestly believe others would have. I too am disappointed with his performances for us and I am sure he will show what we missed out on when he does move on.

This crops up every summer when he pisses over someone like New Zealand or Puerto Rico for Mexico. He is not made for the PL, or life in England generally. Hopefully Santander will finalise a deal with us and we can reinvest in the squad.

He never really had chance at establishing himself in the team

If that was because of his discipline off the field then I guess he only has himself to blame.

If he had held down a 1st team place maybe he'd have realised how much better his life would be and quit the party lifestyle.

The most sane thing I have heard all day, the PL is a whole different ball game, he would never make it here. He was ahrdly tearing up trees when out on loan, surely this was his chance to prove himself. He has a kool name which I think some people on here find important, I doubt Barca would have let him leave if he was going to be such a superstar

has never been given a chance. would be interesting to see him play in his preferred position in vdv role or cutting in from the right. not saying he is brilliant but we should write him off until hes given a chance.

wow. If he has this potential then why has he not made it anywhere? A few good games for Barca, a few good games in the championship with Ipswich, played well in pre season for us, didnt make any impression in Turkey and hasnt pulled up any trees since hes been back in Spain. Why are you so confident about his potential to the point you claim i made a clueless comment as ive failed to see this so called potential. What has he actually ever done to suggest he has huge potential? or are we basing this on his performances in the U17 world cup?

His only start for us in the last 12 months came with a team of kids against Arsenal's first team and he was subbed at half time. Prior to that he was given a couple of away games in the cup where he played well and home and away to Shaktar where he played well away and scored a great goal at home.

REally hard to shine when you're given about three full games in two and half years eh ? Understandable I guess with our plethora of world class forward options......
