Some journo on twatter claims Liverpool and Spurs not wanted by Qatari's in their plan. But Arsenal are? Jesus christ.

Who's the journo? If this is a hoax then he's really showed himself up as a prize twat by embellishing facts about a story that was fake to begin with.

Even if this wasn't a hoax the FA and Premier League would never allow English clubs to take part as it would cripple all the other teams in the country. My god, how do you get a job at a paper like the Mirror? Do you just make up a load of shit on your CV and they pick the one with the most lies?

Why do people 'ever' believe what they read in newspapers?

The really worrying thing is it originated here at The Times, not The Mirror!

I don't think they could stop a club playing a summer tournament.

I admire your faith in the good intentions of the FA and PL though I'm afraid I can't share your optimism.

Times journalist has just rejected the hoax allegation on BBC media show.
Says he stands by his multiple sources for the story.
That makes it a conspiracy rather than a hoax.
Could be Qatari Royal family testing the water with a 'placed' story.
Money talks. Usually bollocks but ......

It would ruin the whole league system in the UK though, surely even they could see that. Plus, would the chosen teams even want to risk their players? All that money would be of no use when they players are all knackered and injured and I don't think the oil barrons would let them bring youth teams over. It's just a bad Idea, if Quatar want to become a football nation they need to put their money into grass roots development and start from the bottom up.

If I was in charge of the FA/Prem I'd make all the teams sign an agreement that they can't earn over a certain ammount from summer tours. If you put it down to a vote, all the teams outside of the top 4 would vote against it and the majority would win. Then, if say Arsenal broke the rules, I'd dock them 50 points and laugh as they struggle to avoid relegation.

Seems like the bullshit french paper wrote the original piece. They even had the same picture that the times used.
Sorry meant the original story to the mirror article not the original story about the Qatar league

In a strange, roundabout way this is like an alternative version of a pre-season Friendly tournament. I could never understand how those (Emirates Cup, Berlusconi Trophy etc) could technically be Friendlies since you actually win something no matter how insignificant it is. I guess they're not Friendlies...well people don't put much stock into them anyway.

Look at me arguing with myself!

Anywho, this is just a more exclusive version with more teams. I doubt the teams in it would risk so many players in the off season, it'll end up like an early FA cup tie where teams use it to give their youngsters/fringe players game time and it won't end up being taken as seriously as the Champions League.

Can't see these rich folk paying £100m per team to watch their youth players. They'd insist on seeing the first teamers, it's just as well it won't happen.
