Just noticed this pop up on the BBC site, but can't find anymore details just yet. Do you think Arsene may curb his cheating ways as a result?

Good on UEFA, about time they did something useful.

Wenger wil be on SSN in a while, wonder will he be bitching about it?

From sportinglife :

UEFA have charged Arsenal striker Eduardo with diving to win a penalty against Celtic and he could now face missing the Gunners' first two Champions League group games.

European football's governing body announced they had opened disciplinary proceedings against the Croatia international for "deceiving the referee" in Wednesday night's play-off round second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

UEFA said in a statement: "Having studied video evidence of the incident in question, the UEFA disciplinary inspector decided to charge the player concerned. The UEFA control and disciplinary body will examine the case on September 1."

The charge is based on Article 10, paragraph 1c of the UEFA disciplinary regulations (misconduct of players) which states: "Players may be suspended for two competition matches, or for a specified period, for acting with the obvious intent to cause any match official to make an incorrect decision or supporting his error of judgment and thereby causing him to make an incorrect decision."

Brilliant decision by UEFA. Not just because it's Eduardo as much as I enjoy that. But for the good of football diving needs to be stamped out. As does stamping.

Brilliant that they're finally taking a stand. I feel physically sick if our players dive. Thankfully only Zokora used to do it really and he's now gone.

How great is it to see when the likes of Defoe and Lennon are getting kicked about and shrugging off the challenges in an attempt to get forward? Sometimes it does work against them as it would be easier to get a freekick but to me it just shows a hunger and love of the game.

Diving is the biggest problem in football in my opinion and welcome the decision. I think the ban should be even longer for future incidents.

Do you think Wenger would put up with his players diving if they are banned for 5 games each incident. How long would Real put up with Ronaldo or chelsea with Drogba?

They also need to address this rule about only reviewing incidents that the ref missed. This is a step in the right direction at least, credit where it is due.

Nicked from Wingers on cockonball...

(2006)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on referees to stamp out diving by suspending guilty players.

Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips is the latest Premiership player to be accused of diving in order to get an opposition player sent off.

And Wenger said: "We have to fight it and there is only one way to punish people diving obviously: suspension.

"Once it is in the game it is difficult to get it out. Once a guy knows he might be punished he will not dive."

Wright-Phillips was accused of diving in Chelsea's 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final win on Wednesday and Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott was sent off.

"My view without going into any individual case is that we are all as managers to fight against it," Wenger said.

"Sometimes the players dive just because they pushed the ball too far and the only way to get something out of the situation is to dive.

"We are all managers who can never say that one of our players has not dived. Nobody can say that in our league.

"I can say that when my team are not involved I am 100% against it."

Arsenal were at the centre of a diving controversy two seasons ago when midfielder Robert Pires won a penalty against Portsmouth to seal a home draw.

Drogba would spend more time suspended than playing if they look at all his shenanigans in the last few seasons.

I remember when Huddlestone took a dive once (i think it was against Pompey) but didn't win a penalty. The Spurs fans got on his back for it and i haven't seen him do it since. Spurs are class, Arsenal are scum yet they call themselves class.

I was going to say that the punishment was lenient and instead they should break his legs...but then realised that may be seen as a tad evil.

Anyways...good decision by UEFA and one I thoroughly didn't expect. Let's hope the FA start implementing a similar system.

Pretty sure it was Zoko tackled by Mendes. It was a dive and yes we did moan as did Jol.

Good, although lets hope they don't stop there. They need to do this to everyone.

Gerrard, Drogba, Ronaldo, etc could all be in trouble this year if they carry on.

If it makes him feel better uefa could always go back through the last few seasons and ban pretty much their whole squad retrospectivly .....just so Ed doesnt feel victimised.
