dont really see the point in this signing. Not going to be first choice striker - most likely 4th, not going to get many games in midfield.....pointless signing if true, and does not address the areas of concern - backup goalkeeper, centre midfield and centre back. How does this improve our squad?

Agree. Not what we need

May as well have got Sheringham out of retirement... yawn. Watching Murray is way more entertaining.

Will be interesting to see what happens after the 6 months should he do well for us.

He's more of an attacking midfielder and a second striker and is probably being bought to play up front.

p.s.
we only have 3 midfielders, although O'Hara has returned.

Well, in his last season at Chelsea, and for the majority of his time at Barca after they realised he couldnt play through the middle, he was used in the midfield three, not always as the most attacking of the trio. Also, with 0 goals in 11 games in Monaco, although ive not seen him play, it would seem as if he has been playing up front. If he has, then all the more reason why its a ridiculous signing.

This is lot like when we signed Teddy in 2001.

Very pleased about this. His brains and guile will help us a lot where we really struggle - against better defences and poorer sides who play negatively.

He started 6 games at Monaco. Up front, yes, but it's probably more down to not settling in, not fitting with how they play. Although, I can't deny 0 goals in 11 apperances is nothing special.

When played upfront he has always delivered. The stats show so. Hopefully he's still effective there.

He also brings winning mentality and experience. Again, hopefully, he will be similar to Edgar Davids in that division.

That's a shame. When presented with the straight choice of playing for a team gunning for a champions league place or a team whose sole aim is to avoid relegation, I guess there isn't that much competition for a player. I'd have probably done the same.

Be interesting to see if he's still got it. He was never a player that relied on pace at any rate to there isn't much to suggest he wont other than the failure to make an impact at Monaco.

Another average centre midfielder.

Just what we needed

I'm going to take up several points with this post.

1.) None of our midfielders are average - we're 4th in the premier league :bang:

2.) As stated by someone else, we have only 3 centre midfielders - possibly 4 if you count O'Hara. That's hardly a wealth of talent - 2 injuries or suspensions and we're looking shaky.

3.) Gudjohnsen is far from average, average players don't tend to play for clubs like Chelsea and Barcelona - picking up CL winners medals as they go.

4.) Assuming we sell Pav - what type of player do we need this window - cause for me i'd say that an AM/F is exactly the sort of player we are missing!

Does anyone follow the French league?

My main concern is that if Monaco are ready to let him go out on loan after only 6 months then there must be a bit of a problem. Has be played badly or has he fallen out with the management/not settled?

The French league is hardly full of world beaters so I'm a bit concerned about his lack of impact over there.

Obviously as it's a loan it's a relatively risk free investment but I'd still be interested as to why he'd so easily available.

1) Jenas and O Hara are emphatically average, whilst both Palacios and Hudd have their moments, especially the former when he's on the ball.

2) No, we dont have a wealth of them, but if we are going to get another oen in, then it should be a quality player, not a journeyman way past his peak.

3) Have you seen him play in the last three years? Im assuming not. If you had seen him, then you will be extremely aware of how poor he has been since 2007, and is about as overweight as Campbell. His goal record in the past 3 years doesnt exactly act as a glittering reference either. Also, plenty of players have Champions League medals in the cabinet and are now over the hill. We aren't buying him, throwing him in a time machine and winding him back by 5 years, we are signing him NOW-his past achievements are ultimately redundant in whether he is any good any more or not.

4) Pav is a lot better than Gudjohnson, and if we are going to buy an AMF, then we should be buying one who is either still a good player or one with a bright future, for example Victor Moses.

I guess this is just another example of a player's name and CV shrouding some fans opinions' on a player. I cant see how anyone who has actually watched him play in the past three years will say he's anything other than a poor signing.

Reported £30k for Gudjohnsen ? Hell yes thank-you very much.

He knows how to win, fresh start for him for 6 months and will give us a different option.
