When are we going to learn not to play full backs out of position? I remember the times we put Chimbonda at left back or in the centre of defence.

Can see that the other players were reluctant to pass to BAE when he was at right back. Really bad decision by Harry. Shoulda kept the team except the Bassong/King swap.

I wish we'd have kept Naughton - hope he gets some opportunities when Corky is unavailable or rested next season.

To be fair to him and Harry, he dealt with Nani pretty well in the first half, but I dont like forcing players to play on their weaker sides. Evra getting forward for the penalty was an example where his weaker side was exposed.

I think Kaboul had done fairly well in the two previous games, and linked well with Bentley, but had been caught out for the two goals we had conceded. Porbably a 40-60 decision, 40% chance of working, and it didnt. Hey ho.

But against Sunderland it was clear Walker is'nt ready. Harry went with experience, also playing Modric in the centre at OT is'nt a viable option.

He's given away penalties at left back too; playing on the other side doesn't excuse him lunging in. All of this talk about the starting eleven is irrelevant, we had a team out there that could have won today (united were not at their best) especially with lennon coming on 2nd half. The main thing is we were casual in possession, that set us up for the loss as MU will punish you at OT if you keep giving them the ball.

HR must have stressed how important it was to keep the ball and take care with passing and they go out and fuck about with it. Will take a while for some things to sink into this team.

Not all lost though, hope the scum can shut up bluemoon today as they are no doubt have a communal fapping sesh over this result. The decider for 4th will be our game against City.

Come off it, how can you blame Harry for that shit performance from Ekotto? He's hardly being asked to play up front. He's a fullback. He should cope better than he did, simple as that. The penalty he gave away was terrible. No excuses.

you dont realise how hard it is to play on your opposite side without experience in doing it

I have been a left back all my life, was asked to play right back once and it is really hard to adapt. You could tell Ekottos body positioning was all wrong at times, i felt really sorry for him.

When you think about it, that was an absolutely criminal decision from Redders.

Yeah, I can't believe Redknapp dived in on him like that. Fucking Redknapp.

Players have to take responsibility for their actions. He had coped up until that point too. It didn't help that he was playing out of position, but I'd say it was a massive loss in his concentration (which he's been guilty of before). At no point should you ever dive in that recklessly in the box and with your weaker foot - knowing that with him it really is a weaker foot. I reckon the ball has hit his right foot 10 times at most this season.

And steve, no offence because I love you 'n' all, these are Premier League professional footballers. I'm not sure what level you've played at - and please correct me if I'm wrong as this is not an attack on you - but simply, these guys are professional athletes and should be able to cope. More to the point that he's been training for it all week too.

Having played for as long as i can remember....i dont buy they 'weaker foot' to tackle with lark. I can tackle as good with either foot.
Maybe i should have started at RB today......

I thought BAE at right back was a good idea for this game.

But there is a definition that describes intelligence as an ability to adapt oneself adequately to relatively new situations, and poor BAE obviously doesnt fit the description.

how many times this season has BAE been rash and made a tackle like the one for the penalty? That is part of his current MO - he gets a rush of blood to the head and BAE still has growing up to do whether he plays LB or RB.

Sure Corluka would have been nice but he is not as fast as BAE. Maxwell wasmost probably not picked due to his 'experience'. Personally I would have gone with Kaboul at RB and keep the BAE/Bale axis on the left which has worked well for us over the last couple of games.

One last thought is that I would compare it to Dawson's tackle in the box last week against Chelsea - all ball and no player.

agree

and it certainly didn't make it any easier with Bentley playing as RW. Extremely poor in defence

why change a winning side so drastically, same players different positions, no attacking impoetus on the left side, nothing from bentley on the right including not helping out his fullback.

occasional lapses of concentration from huddlestone again today including a resultant penalty situation and goal from miscontrolling the ball.

dunno about BAE but a lot of this squad needs to grow up and pav needs new boots.

Thought Assou-Ekotto did well enough out of position and tbh was disappointed with Bentley again.
