I felt sorry for him....

All left foot & asked to play right back.....

Terrible decision......
This!

Can see that the other players were reluctant to pass to BAE when he was at right back. Really bad decision by Harry. Shoulda kept the team except the Bassong/King swap.
This!

Come off it, how can you blame Harry for that shit performance from Ekotto? He's hardly being asked to play up front. He's a fullback. He should cope better than he did, simple as that. The penalty he gave away was terrible. No excuses.
Not this!

It wasn't so much the moving him to RB it was moving him from LB and moving Bale from LW and moving Modric from LM none of which benefitted us in the least and all of which removed our main attacking threat, our left hand side.
Poor decisions all round just, I suspect, to fit in Wilson, bad day at the office for the management team.

Was a poor decision by Redknapp to play BAE at RB. Yes, you would hope that they practiced it all week, but it's not hard to see that BAE is very left footed and was going to struggle against a very good side that plays with wingers and attacking full backs.

Given that he would almost always tackle with his left foot (naturally), putting him on the right would almost always end up with him in awkward body positions and so he was an accident waiting to happen, professional footballer or not.

Goddit Stoof and I'm not too gutted by the result and I'm not heading up any hang em & flog em faction I was just disappointed with that team selection and setup, as I said I would be two days ago, I can't see the sense in it and so don't support it.

As soon as I saw the team before kickoff, I thought it was a recipe for disaster. Hoddle said the same at half time, waiting for a mistake from BAE, put on the side he doesn't have a foot to play with. Still don't see the sense in changing a winning team. Kaboul did alright at RB before, despite his inexperience even Walker, who at least has a right foot and some pace would have been better. But that ship has now sailed and foundered on the rocks. Let's hope we recover against Bolton, by no means an easy side to beat. And that Aaron had no reaction to his few first team minutes.

terrible decison by harry to play BAE RB- i deliberately kept silent pre-match but under protest to myself

a major error could cost us 4th

but it was never an easy answer

i suggested modric wilson hudd bale

with an orthodox back 4

that had some strong critics

it was a difficult call for harry no doubt - but he took the wrong call no doubt

If only he had your wonderful gift for commenting on stuff after it happened. He'd probably win every game!!

I say, get a manager in who has the ability of hindsight before the game. It's quite simple really.

Kaboul had a torrid time against Chelsea and we were playing well - and as Harry said, "Kaboul told me he's not a right back". So what do you do? Play a guy who's told you he can't play there, or pick a guy who just wants to play for the club - who has played there before for us (in a game we won). The answer is simple for me.

I'm more concerned that our defence is leaking penalties. That's not a Harry Redknapp problem, that's a concentration problem - which unfortunately is down to the individual.

We've been having a psychological battle with United since the start of the 90s and we've only very rarely seen it go our way. This battle was lost in the players and our fans' heads. Not because a left back lost concentration for a mad minute. The belief that surges through Old Trafford is almost unparalleled. It's actually very impressive.

You mean Modric was used out of position against Arsenal and Chelsea, right? I mean, as Harry said, Modric has been playing from the left all season.

Maybe have a look at the fantastic strikeforce that didn't change yet as typical didn't turn up away from home.

As Andy Gray said, Defoe has scored against Birmingham and Everton away. No other team in the top half. It took Pavlyuchenko until a couple of months ago to score his first away League goal.

Our strikers just don't score away from home!

So true blueone. I'm finally starting to think that our much vaunted strikeforce is rapidly becoming overhyped.

I agree I understand why harry played him there instead of kaboul but it didn't work & wouldn't like to see him play there again then unless there is a real emergency.

Valid points stoof re the strikers, which is why I would have gone 451 with Gudjohnsen to start on his own with Modric floating behind.

But moving Modric around the midfield isn't the same as playing a not amazingly reliable LB at RB against one of the strongest left sides in the EPL.

You probably know that playing players out of position is one of my all time pet hates. It's barely forgivable if the player concerned is adaptable (like Modric in midfield, Kranjcar left or right midfield, talented players who have a brain and use both feet comfortably) but when that player is predominantly one footed and the position is specialist it is fucking crazy and hardly ever works.

Ekotto was uncomfortable all game. Understandably.

I tried to make the point in a couple of threads that we needed to get our tactics right today to stand a chance. Tactics cost us at least one goal today.

Harry should not have played BAE at r/back, when we could have played somebody else there IE Walker, Kaboul

Easy to be critical in hindsight but just looked a bad call when the team went up.

Ferguson clearly identified to his team what to take advantage of in the second half, and so they did...only sympathy for BAE. Not so much for Wilson who was clumsy at best.

Ekotto was uncomfortable all game.

This is a false statement. He was uncomfortable while being on the right, and that affected the game of everyone around him. As soon as he got moved to the left his game improved by a mile, at least, it was so obvious.

Ekotto was terrible in the 1st half v Everton, at fault for the 1st goal at Arsenal, gave away a penalty at Stoke. What excuses do you have for those? He has moments like today. It was a bad game for Ekotto, regardless of where he played.

Harry changed the tactics because away games at Old Trafford are different to home games to Arsenal and Chelsea. We were in the game for the most part, but gave away 2 silly penalties. The tactics weren't at fault, just individual errors.
