Haven't got a link for The Times piece, but read the report by Gary Jacob in their paper today. He says that we've put him up for sale due to his age and contract situation (Man City will no longer be subsidising his wages). He also states that our targets include Romelu Lukaku and Jay Rodriguez, as well as Toby Alderweireld and James Ward-Prowse.

The Mirror are also reporting a similar Adebayor story...

On his day he's brilliant but his finishing is generally poor and he's still got a poor attitude and at 30 years of age, it's not going to improve. I would be over the moon if the club intend to replace him with any of Balotelli, Lukaku or Bony.

Sell sell sell please.
he is a childish primadona, plus he liked Tim....

Easy to say sell.

But how much will it cost for a player of equal ability that would entertain coming to us?

Smacks of another finance above football decision for me.

heres the times piece, stole it from coys:
Emmanuel Adebayor has been put up for sale as Tottenham Hotspur attempt to rejuvenate their forward line and cash in on the Togo striker while he has a significant valuation.

Tottenham believe their best opportunity is to sell him this summer because he has two years left on his contract and his wages have dropped to about £85,000 a week, about half of what he has been earning since permanently joining the club two years ago.

The difference in money was effectively topped up by Manchester City as part of an exit agreement, although that agreement ends this month, making his salary less prohibitive for suitors.

Adebayor is also a victim to Tottenham’s preference to sell outfield players above the age of 30. Jermain Defoe was 31 and Scott Parker 32 when they were sold, and the policy also makes vulnerable the defenders, Benoît Assou- Ekotto, 30, who has one year left on his contract, and Michael Dawson, 30, who has two years left on his contract.

Adebayor scored 14 goals after being brought in from the cold by Tim Sherwood, the former Tottenham head coach, in December, having been sidelined after he fell out with André Villas-Boas, Sherwood’s predecessor.

The row erupted after the striker returned from compassionate leave after the death of his brother in July a year ago. Adebayor refused to move to Besiktas, the Turkish club, last summer when his wages proved prohibitive for other clubs and held talks with Queens Park Rangers, who may be interested once more after returning to the Barclays Premier League.

Less clear is whether Roberto Soldado, also a striker, will leave White Hart Lane. Tottenham have interest from Atlético Madrid and a return to Valencia is not out of the question because only half of the £26 milion fee remains to be paid to the Spanish club.

Tottenham’s targets include the strikers Romelu Lukaku, of Chelsea, and Jay Rodriguez, of Southampton, and they have an interest in James Ward-Prowse, the midfielder, and Toby Alderweireld, the Belgium defender. Tottenham looked at Alderweireld last summer but he moved from Ajax to Atlético Madrid, where he has struggled to command a regular place.

Tottenham, who will tour the United States in July, have announced they will play Schalke in their final friendly on August 9. The German side are likely to include Kevin-Prince Boateng, who spent two years at White Hart Lane from 2007.

Besiktas want to sign Kostas Mitroglou on loan from Fulham to replace Hugo Almeida, who is expected to leave this summer. The Greece striker played little more than 150 minutes for Fulham in three appearances because of a knee injury. He completed an £11 million move from Olympiacos, in his home country, to west London in January.

Thanks for posting so not knocking you for it but sounds like it's more guess work to me. Naming strikers we've been linked to already and doesn't seem like there's any information to support the idea

It's very easy to say sell because it's the right thing to do. This has very little to do with the amount of money that Adebayor is costing us, it's more because of the character of the man.

We can afford to keep Adebayor but we can't afford players who down tools and decide not to work no matter how good some think they are. Adebayor did both under AVB and we simply can't risk a repeat performance under Pochettino.

Expect to see BAE leaving too.

But wasn't it Avb who cast these 2 players off?

Oh and we couldn't score or have a decent left back.

Fucking brilliant

I can't stand Rose but QPR had a far worse left back and Adebayor was bumped down to the development squad because of his attitude and behaviour towards the then head coach.

You don't leave a tumour to grow and spread to other organs, you cut it out as quickly as possible.

Yet there was ITK a few weeks ago confirming Ade is heading to Monaco.

He spits his dummy out pretty much every season and if he does it again next season, we'll be left without a target man (unfair to expect Kane to lead the line). I would rather well him whilst we can get some decent money for him and bring in someone who will work for the team and more importantly, consistently deliver goals (as previously mentioned Balotelli, Bony or Lukaku).

Super-talented but super-unreliable.

When I watched the Nigeria v Iran match the other night the commentator was explaining how Stephen Keshi(Nigeria Manager) used to be Togo boss but ended up resigning due to a fall out with Adebayor. It a typical story.

We simply just can't carry a player on such high wages when he might decide he'll have the season off because he doesn't agree with the manager.

When he's at the races he's an excellent player, but that seems to heavily depend upon how he gets on with the head coach. Give him & Pochettino a bit of pre-season together and see where things stand at the end of July. If Ade buys into the gameplan and commits to working hard for the team he'd be a massive asset, if not there's still time to sell him off.

No doubt he'll go walkabout if Togo qualify for next years African Cup of Nations.

Gary Jacobs is, as usual, making stuff up.

The wages issue cropped up a couple of weeks ago. City have never subsidised his wages. He got a £4m signing on fee to compensate for the near-50% wage cut, and we paid City just £5m. People really believe Levy would have countenanced a deal whereby City would compensate us for just two seasons?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...or-from-Manchester-City-in-deal-worth-9m.html

Actually, if people believe we've got a cat's chance in hell of signing Lukaku, maybe they would believe that. After all, some people appear to believe Balotelli would be less of a loose cannon than Ade.

The reality is that he's the best striker we've had since Klinsmann (please, nobody mention Berbatov, especially if you're going to accuse Ade of turning up only when he feels like it). He may be an arse at times, but a lot of top strikers are, and we simply wouldn't have him if he didn't have the baggage. We took a calculated risk and it's largely paid off. And really, if Harry and Sherwood can keep him happy, working for the team and scoring Pochettino should be able to manage the same feat.

Lets use him as part of a deal for James.... Surely it could take 8-10 mil of the full price.... Oh if only.
