What I don`t understand is why France didn`t hire in extra police forces from UK, Germany, Holland etc in front of the tournament..? There are probably lots of young policemen willing to go to France and earn some extra cash. And they should also have hired in some "prison boats" with cells at the docks. Then it would be easy to imprison trouble makers and also easy to send them directly home.

The result now is that they have stopped selling alcohol at the stadiums. Think about the money they are missing out. Doing some extra preparations would be better, cheaper and safer.

I think England should seriously consider pulling out of the tournament: the fans aren't safe; the Russians are thugs; the French authorities have no plan - why let people drink from glass bottles!

Unfortunately a minority of English fans can not behave. Furthermore, the English are a target / magnet for international hooligans. This is compramising the ability of the Fench police to deal with possible terrorism threats. Either we should pull out or they need to Impose alcohol bans.

I'd be surprised if there is no trouble on Wednesday / Thursday. Then we will get kicked out and banned even if the Russians instigate the violence.
Russians aren't drinking though... They are there purely to fight and are trained and sober!
English louts are, well, louts, but would largely cause very little incident, but as you say are being targeted.

Alcohol ban, won't do much if the Russians continue to pursue matters.

France has drafted in 180 000 extra police over the period since Charlie Hebdo/ Paris. 90 000 of them specifically for the Euros ...

Prison boats? Just Lol ...

Alcohol in stadiums: You haven't been able to buy alcohol at any sporting stadium in France ever for any sport since i have lived here which is 14 years now ... and a good thing too.

True. People will still. Be in serious danger even without alcohol. Banning alcohol would at least minimise the English loutishness which may make the whole situation easier to control.

Let's hope so... Really hoping the English and Welsh show unity and friendship in Lens... Leave the battle on the pitch, just like in the rugby.

But, banning alcohol? All the bars and restaurants in the cities are relying on selling lots of beer and not a few Diet cokes and coffees. They have probably employed many extras this summer especially for this tournament. They are not willing to face bankruptcy just because of some english loats.

Hopefully it'll be a friendly yet passionate FA Cup/Prem type derby game where the only physicality is on the pitch.

Diet Coke is in all likelihood more expensive than beer.

Okay. I thought I saw people drinking at the stadiums on TV. Then the new ban that came a few days ago was about sale of alcohol close to and around the stadiums.? They still lose money.

Why are prison boats LOL? Do you think it`s easier and cheaper to send them back home with business class tickets on KLM or British Airways ( or russian airlines?)? Boats like that are of course transportable. Ships usually are. And it would be be possible to keep thugs there just for a few nights as well.

They were probably drinking alcohol free beer. Lots of people drink all day and don't realise it's alcohol free and end up being a bit confused at how much they can drink! lol :)

If they've banned in the vicinity of the stadiums that's new/ temporary ... i didn't know that. Normally you can get an alcholic beer even at the Panini stands outside.

Yes, it was the domestic/internal minister (don`t know what you call that minister post in UK if you have it- we don`t) who held a press conference on sunday and announced this. Yes, it was temporary for shure!;)

British Police offered to go over there, spotters etc. From what i can gather, France refused any help.
Stupid fuckers. I guess because the last time we went over to France to help out it went so badly for them, eh?

I actually think the World Cup in 2018 will be uber safe

The world will be watching, expecting there to be trouble and Putin knows this

So he'll beef up security, have a word with the Russian mob and make sure the hooligans don't cause any trouble

And the whole thing will be hailed as a propaganda coup by the Russian ruling elite

It's the way Putin works; he loves a bit of bait and switch

Maybe at a supermarket in UK, yes. Not in a bar in France. And you don`t buy 10 diet cokes before a game, do you?
Seriously? Bars across mainland Europe usually have higher costs for soft drinks than they do alcohol. Perhaps not during a tournament, I don't know, but I always remember beer in France being cheap when I lived there.
