Becoming increasingly clear that because we couldn't get any money in for the players we didn't want, we couldn't go beyond the original outlay from the 6 signings.

Or the players Conte want arnt available/affordable just now? And options being lined up in January's window (itk saying we were doing this for someone who's contract could be running down and if doesn't sign we move in again).

Loads of different reasons, players not going out of course is one part of it. Is levy/enic dealing with outgoings? I know they arnt doing much for the incomings.

Well yeah, they aren't affordable because we haven't got 'enough' money to make them affordable as we didn't get anything from the big earners we tried to sell.

To get 0 pounds in transfer fees for Rodon, Lo Celso, Winks, Ndombele and Reguillon means we haven't been able to buy anyone, to go in at a club's asking price and take them away. Like Chelsea has done in this window.

This window been better than most but classic Tottenham, just leaving the coach a bit short of what he wanted. We should have gone for it now, we have Conte now, we might not have him in 12 months.

But this is what is said, and the bits in brackets that you highlighted I said could be. If their club needs them to sign a new contract, in my head it's because it's running down.

The club is 100% taking every precaution to hide any potential business. What I can say I have been told is that we already have an eye on January. Now my interpretation of that would be a player we've tried for, can't get, and their club needs them to sign a new contract. So Bastoni or Zaniolo, but that's just me taking an educated guess based on limited information.

nope you seriously think our window was that great? its a 6.5/10 at best.
It was a good start. I didn't expect a magic wand that was going to fill every position with top quality players. Would you rather see some squad fillers in on the last day that we're stuck with or wait and bring in more of the players that Conte wants? We're not playing at our best and there's a lot of room for improvement but we're only a handful of games in.

Good early business, making astute signings at realistic fees, improving the overall quality of the squad. Coupled together with those surplus to requirements being sold or loaned out.

top targets that were not gettable have not been replaced with second rate dross.

Good window. Would’ve liked another CB and creative midfielder added but so be it.

8/10.

I think we're going to have to accept that whilst Levy is tremendous at ensuring the club is the most financially stable in the world he will never go for it like fans would like.

The fact Conte is happy huge, and especially after last night I think we're short in forward areas but if he is satisfied then let's go with it.

I do think we will run into problems when he all but throws the cups but the club is moving forward and in Richarlison, Bissouma and Perisic we have brought three huge players which move us forward.

Am very disappointed to be honest. I've actually defended Levy and ENIC a lot more than most over the last 20 years, because I thought their overall strategy, if they were going to go through with it, made a lot of sense even if they made individual mistakes along the way. That strategy being: invest into the stadium and infrastructure, keep the club financially stable, increase our revenue streams, and whenever we get a windfall of cash - invest it into the playing squad to boost the club up a level.

Even though we've had some very talented players over the last 15 years, we've not been able to capitalise properly because funds have been tight. I get that. First money had to be diverted towards the stadium, then we suffered heavy losses in the pandemic while other clubs with oil cheat codes on just carried on around us. But this summer, for the first time, everything was in place. We'd had a full year, uninterrupted, of playing in our new stadium and seeing the huge money it generates. We have qualified for the Champions League, giving us another huge revenue stream and giving players the opportunity to play in the world's top club competition. We have one of the world's best and most respected coaches, and a squad full of exciting players like Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Romero and Lloris that I'm sure many would love to play alongside. Unless we've just come off the back of an extended run in the Champions League, we are never going to have more favourable conditions than we had going into a summer window. So what did we have to show for it:

  • Lower net spend than West Ham and Nottingham Forest
  • Only one player that's gone straight into the first team - a 33 year old
  • Not one player in my opinion that we wouldn't have been able to sign without Champions League football
  • No "game changers" that raise the ceiling of the club - think when we upgraded Fazio with Alderweireld, or Crouch with Adebayor. Like what Arsenal and City have done this summer with Jesus and Haaland respectively.
  • Emerson Royal is still starting in the first team. Emerson. Royal. We also still have Dier, Davies and Hojbjerg starting, all good players but all could have been upgraded.
  • Improved squad "depth" - but what's the point of depth if Conte won't bring most of these guys on in a mid-week fixture when the first teamers are clearly tired and getting overrun?
  • If Kane gets injured we have neither a classic centre-forward nor an attacking midfielder / playmaker to cover either aspect that he brings to the side.

It's not all bad - I think all of the signings individually make a lot of sense, and by default this looks like being our best summer window in at least 6-7 years which is crazy. But call me ungrateful, delusional or whatever...after over a decade of waiting for this window....I was hoping for a bit more.

I think they’d be very disappointed to get in £0 for Ndombele Lo celso Winks Reguilon well bar some nominal loan fees. They probably had at least £50m earmarked there. Eventually probably get some reasonable money on those 4. But that probably did curtail late squad signings.

We provide a whole sub-forum for transfers and even today a thread for you to critique our efforts during this transfer window.

Whilst I get the link between ENIC and transfers, not much of the talk is actually about that is it, it's more we shoulda/coulda and this thread still isn't the place for it. There's little point in people having the same conversations in two or more threads, so can we keep this one for the ENIC bashing/bumhole reaming of the more usual and very very circular nature and move over to the Post Mortem thread for the TW stuff please.

Thanks
