Arsenal have conceded 6 goals twice though. Vs man city away when Kos went off injured after 20 mins and away to Chelsea when Gibbs was wrongfully sent off. This is a clear case of stats being misleading.

But I didn't just quote stats, or team stats. Demichelis's reading of the game is superb IMO and his contribution to the football ManC play and the enhanced ability to play out from the back.

The team of the year is never built around a sensible formation so I'll go with an attacking 4-3-3.

Marshall

Coleman Koscielny Kompany Azpilicueta

Toure Gerrard Ramsey

Suarez Sturridge Hazard
Baines, Lallana, Lloris, Cahill, Silva, Oscar and Aguero as subs.

See above
Not enough to warrant team of the season, but fair enough, he's your choice in your overall evaluation of his game.

He's been too wobbly and destabilizing for me though, overall, from what I've seen. I like his attitude though, he looks like he enjoys the game.

Lloris (cos can't think of any other and it's depressing to have no Yid)
Coleman
Kompany
Cahill
Baines
Silva
Toure
Lallana
Hazard
Suarez
Aguero

I honestly think Kompany is quite over-rated, to the extent that people think he is amazing and for me he is just a very good defender in a collection of very good and some excellent players he makes some really weird mistakes and is no Ledley.

Its a major problem when people place too much faith in stats to represent the going on's in football

Great fun for the stattos maybe - but football is far too fluid a game and so much is not recorded in black and white, its not like the US sports where stats are so much more significant

More often than not I find stats to be misleading or at least not tell the whole story - and very easily they can be manipulated to support an adgenda.

Football is not so easily incapuslated by the use of stats and I think this is where some people behind the scenes (not least the likes of Commoli) trip up. Its not as simply as finding a point guard with a great 3 point shooting percentage or a running back who rushed for a great amount of yards per game - too much of football is somewhat intangible and doesn't get accurately reflected by the stats

Well obviously.

What use is shooting three pointers to a football team?

Duh.

I actually rate Kompany very highly, but I also think there is a real scarcity of quality CB's around, both in the EPL and in general, and that raises his stock somewhat.

Quite possibly re the current dearth of centre backs, but people I think overrate him based on his physique and the fact he is a captain of a vastly talented team that is always going to dominate games. I rarely see him do anything that makes me think he is that top class.

I always think of the mistakes he made when we beat them last year, his mistake to get sent off against Hull and his three mistakes against Liverpool. Everyone makes mistakes etc but I can’t think of King, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carvalho or even Terry in their pomp would make those sort of mistakes.

For me, City dominate games because they have Silva, Toure, Nasri and Aguero- the rest are just sideshows.

Do you not think the same applied to most of those others too though ? They were all playing at the back of great teams, with the exception of King.

I think Ferdinand and King were exceptional. But Vidic and terry both were easily as fallible as Kompany and I'm not sure either of those were good enough on the ball to play in midfield as Kompany has.

Perhaps Terry, but most of us think he has always been overrated because in part of his 'stick your chest out' leader bravado. The same applies to Vidic now but he is in decline.

Neither is or was as good on the ball but both at least were as good defenders.

But I think even Chelsea didn't have the attacking jewels which City have which lets he defenders off the hook to some extent.

I kind of think the opposite, ManC are the most attacking team in the league (or at least one of the top 2) that puts more duress on a defence than one like Chelsea that have generally been a far more defensively structured side.

Because they have better defenders? City seem to generally just most bulldoze teams and so few teams get it back or are in the position to threaten City.

--------------Mignolet-----------------
Ivanovic---Skertl-----Kompany-----Shaw
-----------McCarthy---Toure-----------
----------------Eriksen----------------
-----Rooney-----Suarez------Hazard---

Went for a few different ones, Mignolet IMO has really added to Pools points total a few games he has saved them. McCarthy for Everton too I think has been a great buy, Everton's loanies seem to get constant praise while he has went about his work very well. Rooney too, a shit season by Uniteds standards but without his golas they would suely be further down the table. Had to put Eriksen in, a clusterfuck of a season for us.
