Eric Dier believes that most people do not realise just how hard Dele Alli works off the ball after the 25-year-old returned to the Tottenham team this week.

Football, Eric.

You both seem to have forgotten what you're here for. Aimless running achieves the square route of you know what.

Wow, everyone throwing rocks, I thought he played okay but he needs a run of games to get match fit and sharp, also to rebuild some confidence after being shunned all season. He's an amazing talent I'd be gutted if we let him go now.

How long have you been on here? This is what happens. The golden boys (or boy this season) can do no wrong, but as soon as you fall from grace everyone jumps on your back.

I'm really not sure where this "amazing talent" tag comes from. He's had 1 good season in 4 really, and even then we had the vast majority, on virtually EVERY match thread, calling for him to be subbed off due to doing three fifths of fuck all in a match...

Right before he'd weigh in with a goal.

He has talent, of that there is no doubt, but "amazing talent?" Not seeing it myself.

Dier needs to worry about his own game and position in the side.

His movement was good and he consistently made himself available to his team-mate in possession, even if he wasn't passed to.

Yes it was only Sheff Utd but as a team we've been poor this season at making an option for the pass, simple stuff but we really haven't done it well. Added to that, we had more numbers willing to get forward which will always mean moving as a unit and more white shirts to pass to.

Credit where credit's due.

Dele's goals per 90 minutes last season was .39 better than every other midfielder we had. Only Kane (.69) and Son (.52) were better. This season Lucas is .27, Nbombele .09 and Lo Celso .11...

He brings a physicality, presses well, wins the ball high and provides another aerial threat that otherwise only Kane provides.

PL combined goals and assists stats below.

2015/16 19 goals.

2016/17 25 goals.

2017/18 19 goals.

2018/19 was not so great and was with much less game time too (25 games). Involved in 8 goals.

2019/20 was similar but really stepped it up when JM first came in. 25 games and involved with 12 goals. If he had played a full season based on that scoring ratio he would have contributed to 18 goals.

This season was his worst with no goals but has started just 2 games.

So yeah, I'd still call him an amazing talent. Is he the complete package, nope but maybe there is hope he can reach that potential.

I’m not disputing that he has talent, just that putting the appellation “amazing” in front of it is incorrect.

I too share your hopes that he can realise his potential, but comparing his goal involvement stats to a midfield that includes Sissoko, Winks, PEH and GLC is not setting the bar that high.

My preference, believe it or not, is that you are right and I am wrong, but I’m sceptical to say the least.

Hopefully some maturity has come along with the locks.
