Problem is if Dawson refuses to go again, what do we do with him? Hope we don't loan/sell Chiriches instead to keep the numbers down. The club, if Pochettino feels Dawson will not be in his squad, and they have the other options in place, maybe need to tell him he won't be in the 25 registered players. Cruel to be kind.

Like the look of Kaboul (I'm hoping a first full ore season for some time will help him rediscover his form and fitness), Chiriches, Vertonghen and Dier as our CB options. I'd hoped for a natural left footer to cover/compete with Jan, but Dier is apparently two footed so may pan out nicely.
Throw in Fryers and Velkovic as backup options, not bad.

Interesting whether Lascalles is still on the radar also? Ali Z seems convinced he's coming/done.

From the bits and bobs that I've read, he seems to a really interesting prospect for the money. Exactly the kind of signing that we constantly bang on (and moan) about not making.

In: Dier + Musacchio
Out: Dawson

Would be very nice but you could take it one step further...

In: Dier + Musacchio + Rojo
Out: Dawson + Kaboul + BAE + (maybe even Rose)

This is what i'd do regarding the centre halves:

Sign Dier- tell Dawson that he will be behind Verts, Kaboul, Vlad, Dier and possibly Milos in the pecking order. He'd probably leave in search of Premier League first team football then.

Sign Lascelles and find a PL loan for him. Loan out Fryers too.

If Chiriches goes then bring in a first team CB like Musacchio, Ogbonna or Astori perhaps.

really excited by this link. been keen on him joining for a few windows now.

I'd say, bring in Dier and Musacchio, shift Dawson, BAE and Rose, loan Chiriches to Southampton. cross fingers with Kaboul and if he can't make it work recall Chiriches in Jan.

I'd never heard of this Dier kid, let alone the fact that he's English.

20 though, and only 1 season of senior football in a slower league. Surely he would be a backup/reserve, so of little benefit to the first team for his first season and certainly not ahead of someone like Chiriches.

According to the newspaper Diário de Notícias the deal is done (4M£) and should be formalized soon.

...my Portugese is a bit scratchy but it says that the agreement has been concluded. Sporting will receive around five million euros and the English born CB Eric Dier will be a player of Tottenham. The negotiation between the two clubs, was completed today and should be formalised at any time by Sporting. This operation will allow the five million euros to speed up the process of recruitment of Rami Rabia who plays for Al Ahly. I think he is an Egyptian player.

Hopefully that means we've learnt our leasson from last summer then... get the club to agree the fee BEFORE conducting the medical

If he comes I hope it's to be in & around the first team for a season. Establish himself and see if he can transfer from Portugese football to English (in his own words' it's a much slower paced league) then push on in his second season.

Fantastic defender on FIFA14 too. 'bought' him for my Spurs career mode savegame after seeing him being linked here early days. pleasantly surprised. :)
Funnily enough I bought him ages ago on my Fifa save from when it came out. He's 28 now I think, but rated 89

Could see a John Stones-esque development for him. Occasional substitute appearances at first and then perhaps expanding on that role as the season goes along should he adapt well.

Personally I'd far rather keep Daws than Chiriches or Eunice, I think there are still far too many questions about Eunice's ability to get back anywhere close to the level he was and Chiriches looks a long way off a PL CB.
If we have one or two young inexperienced CB's coming in and a non PL more experienced CB like Musacchio it seems far better keeping a hugely PL experienced player like Daws around
Actually if we get the likes of Musacchio, Lascelles, Davies and Dier in then it is certainly a very interesting mix that could work out brilliantly in time, but I think we need to keep a couple of experienced players around to help them find their feet and all may need a bit of patience
But fair play to Poch if we get them, I can't magine too many would have suggested those four names at the start of the summer, Davies maybe but brummy points to anyone who suggested all 4

Exactly. Hopefully this regime has a good handle on how to bring players through (they seemed to at Southampton) gradually. Then we won't have a Lamella-esque repeat.
