Whatever the best cb combo is we need to find it and stick with it. Any half decent team has to have a settled pairing week in week out for any kind of continuity

What is going on with Eric and MoPo? Eric blanked the u-21s because he did not want to play RB and wanted to train at Spurs. MoPo said he knew nothing about that.
I thought he done alright with immense help from Lamela (sarcasm) v Everton.

I would like to see him at CB he could be a ready replacement for either Kaboul or Vertonghen

...has a future as a starting CB - could/should be better than Fazio and Kaboul...

I really hope he plays as CB against Besiktas, I rather have KWP or Vlad at RB

Dier's future is at CB, chopping and changing his position could have bad effect like it has on Jones

Was really good seeing him comeback and play at CB yesterday. Thought he had a really good game in that he was almost unnoticeable. The only two things I noticed the CBs do, in their actual position (so excluding Jan's goal) was one good thing and one bad thing. The bad was obviously Jan getting frustrated and giving that freekick away. One really good thing was Dier's composure near our corner flag to pick out Townsend under pressure and release him to set up our goal. It showed a really cool head as he could have just hoofed it there. He also split two of their players I believe making that pass.

Anyway the rest of his game seemed really tidy, couple of times their players got behind but they were arguably offside. Don't know what's wrong with Fazio as assumed he would play PL games but if Fazio doesn't play Wednesday hope Dier gets a run out then too

You never know how a young CB will turn out. Look at the hype around people like Mancienne, Smalling and Jones compared to what people thought of Cahill at a young age.

Hopefully Dier can keep improving. With Hugo behind him and Jan alongside him he stands a good chance.

I think hes a quality player. Had a couple of shaky moments but was this the first time hes played a full game at CB in the league?

I think so, excluding RB I think this was his first outing. He made a few mistakes, but rectified them pretty quickly.

I thought he was really composed, and showed that he can do the business in the remaining cup competitions anyway at CB, rather than Kaboul. I actually think playing him alongside Kaboul in his current state might do him more harm than good, and I'd like to see him partnered with either Fazio or Verts.

He's got the two most important attributes for a CB - the ability to read the game and anticipate danger, and calmness under pressure.

Obviously he's got the physical attributes as well and is physically pretty dominant with a decent turn of pace, but these two attributes are both the most important to being a quality CB and also the hardest to learn or be coached n - they're natural abilities that you've either got or you haven't.

Dawson, for example, has the commitment and physicality every CB needs, but he never had the ability to read the game well or deal with pressure without resorting to 'smack it out'. To be fair to him, not many CB's can.

Dier also has completely the right attitude and shows no hint of laziness or arrogance - he's just a very good young defender who wants to prove himself and keep getting better.

Could be our starting CB for years and years to come if he continues down the road he's on.

Oh man this is so well said, and absolutely spot on.

Absolutely in love this kid. Quickly becoming one of my favorite players. Future captain in the making IMO.

Pretty sure it was his first appearance at CB for Spurs in general. I might be wrong, but I think that was his first appearance since he pulled out of the England u21 squad...

He's played RB a couple times since then I believe. I think that very well may be his first competitive CB appearance for us though, as I know he played in the Schalke friendly as a CB (and did stunningly well).
