Fan “hate” as a reason to sell a player is ludicrous, and just herd mentality. Fans hated Emerson. Fans hated Rose. Fans hated Sissoko. Fans wanted Son sold, fans thought Modric was too soft, fans thought Bale was a jinx, fans thought Eriksen was a passenger.

Fans loved Dier fourteen months ago and if he plays well they’ll love him again. Players actually have to have stronger belief in themselves than a fanbase does.

I don’t know why I’m even biting but 1). I didn’t say hateful rhetoric. I said ‘hate rherotic’. Since you originally and repeatedly talked about how people hated him then changed it to ‘as a player’ when people called you out on it that is dialling it down. 2). ‘Willing tourist with no chance of playing’??? He’s played 12 games at major tournaments and has 49 caps in total. Once again you are making stuff up because you don’t like the guy. You don’t like Dier, we get it. But stop making shit up and unless you have something new to add stop telling us you think he’s terrible, we know that too.

I didn't tone anything down, I said that hes a nice guy in my first two posts yesterday. He is a nice man, shit footballer. People hate him the player, not the man. Sorry if that needed to be said explicitly. Fans hate him, you hear the shit shouted at him at games and on online. It's not because they think hes a bad man, it's because they are sick of his weak performances and the fact hes been part of the last 3 failed regimes.

You are right he did play a lot in the 2016 shambles and was useful from the bench in 2018... 5 years ago. He was decent 5 years ago when he had a bit more mobility as a younger man and still able to move around in midfield. Plus England did have a very weak central midfield during that period. If this thread was 5 years ago I wouldn't be saying he is bad but it's not.

500 games now in his legs and you're still trying to talk about him being able to be coached to be better like there is still some development left :D, you're the one making shit up.

Dier is not a shit footballer. That's just hyperbolic nonsense. Shit footballers don't get 49 England caps and play at the level he has. Every time you repeat that you just make yourself look ridiculous.

It's also needlessly abusive and disrespectful towards someone who's been a loyal and valuable player at the club.

I really hate how much of our fanbase thinks like this. Toxic, arrogant bullshit.

There's a clear difference between saying you 'hate' a player and saying you don't rate him. One is needless and well, lazy really and the other more balanced, decent and fair. It baffles me that people feel the need to be so over the top about a player, worse, our player. This is supposed to be a place where we can talk about Spurs reasonably and decently. I know we all slip up from time to time, but It's getting too much now isn't it? It just lowers the tone to an unacceptable degree and we end up with a load of bickering about that so surely the easy thing is to be mindful and cut it out?

@Hoopspur hit the nail on the head when he said 'Twitter style' posting, he meant the vitriol and spite. This isn't Twitter so if that kind of thing is your bag, if you have to be like that, then stay on there and out of here, this isn't an extension of Twitter, we strive to be better and that shouldn't be hard.

And so we're clear, 'hate' is just an example that's being discussed today, what's more concerning is the really bad stuff, all the he's this or that, he's a ****, fuck off you prick and all the other OTT stuff up to an including wishes that a player, whatever scapegoat is the fashion, catches Aids, Anthrax and even dies. And yes, we've had all that too. :(

Difference of opinion does not equate to toxic ..or arrogant in my humble opinion. He's not good enough and hasnt been for years for us!

What point are you trying to make here? One clip doesn't prove anything.

I could easily post a clip of Kane missing an easy chance. Would that make him a shit footballer in your eyes?

Any footballer that has reached Dier's level is clearly incredibly talented. He's a premier leagie player, who has regularly played at the champions league and international level. He's not a shit footballer.

Whether he's good enough to continue being a part of our squad is a different issue. And one which people should be able to discuss without using disrespectful hyperbole.

Give it up. The only player thread you've posted in over the last year is this one, with only criticisms. He may not be consistent/athletic enough to start for us at this point in his career, and its clear that's what both the manager and most fans think given we are actively searching for a replacement in the starting cb position. He is a capable back up, and in our fourth place finish year 21-22, he started 35 games and was part of the fourth best defense in the league.

Some random punter on an internet forum thinking they are qualified to state that an international footballer is shit is the definition of toxic arrogance in my opinion.

You can argue that he's not good enough for us without resorting to insulting hyperbole.

It’s not just Levy - whole sections of the Spurs corporate team are so out of touch with the fanbase. Who thought now would be a good time to release an Éric Dier doc, he is among the most hated of players right now. Fairly or not, just not a wise move.

agree no need to be insulting, but your definition of toxic is skewed if you think that having an opinion is an issue.

Great. You could post a similar clip reel on every premiership footballer. Still wouldn't make any of them shit footballers.

So every player in the Prem had as bad a season as Dier then?

Sorry if the word 'shit' is the wrong adjective? would you prefer awful, terrible or bad because all of them could have been used to describe his performance this season.

Having an opinion is fine. Having a toxic opinion and repeatedly posting that about a loyal club servant is not fine.

I thought it was a great doc.

Have you watched it?

Its about Dier's journey from moving to Portugal as a young child through all the ups and downs of his career.

There is no downside to this - except for people who won't watch and have an agenda to pursue.

I'd love to see more docs like this - showing the human side to footballers.
