Ahoy hoy

This weekend I find myself in the deep south... haven't ventured the wrong side of the river in a very long time, except for the occasional cheeky bit of southbank...

Where would be a decent place to watch the Man Utd match on Saturday... somewhere within walking distance of the AFC Wimbledon stadium preferably... not that I'm really sure where it is...

I'd rather somewhere I could openly support Spurs and wear my Cambridge colours, so yeah, nowhere too dodgy!

Cheers for any help!

Chris

Well the AFC Wimbledon Stadium is actually in Kingston so heading 15 minutes to the town centre is probably your best bet. You should be fine wearing spurs colours but I'm not actually sure which pubs have ESPN yet (gonna have to do some pre-match scouting myself). If I find any info I'll let you know.

Come down to Kew Gardens, there is a nice pub there (althogh small and quiet)that will have the game on (right by the tube station)

I also know a few in Twickenham and Richmond, not too sure any of the pus in Kingston will have it on these days...they seem to have distanced themselves from showing live football from what I can tell.

Edit: Last week I was in the Albert in Kingston Hill (before the hospital) they had ESPN banners, so surely will show it (be the closest pub to you that I know will show the game)

Kew gardens and Richmond are nicer but it depends how far you want to travel really. It'd take you between 45 mins-1 hr to get to either from Kingsmeadow (AFC Ground) and you'd need to get the bus/train from central kingston. The Alberts a decent pub and quite close by so that'd be a good bet, but if you do end up in the centre of town the Mill and the Druids Head usually show the footie (and presumably have got ESPN). Hope that helps.

Go to Wimbledon. It's ten mins from Kingston. There is a decent, though never been, pub called the Alexandra up the hill from the station (turn righ at exit) which shows footy and has roof terrace for post match celebratory pint or go up the hill to the top turn left at Tesco and keep going to The Swan (15 min walk) which is my local. Has good beer garden for post match celebratory beer.

£2.50 Pride.

Done.

The Mill is a Scream pub, so most likely they will show the football

Either you're misremembering or it's changed, it's a yellow card now! I've got a few lying around!

No no, it was always a yellow card.... but the yellow card lasted for only a single year, the gold card was/is for life!!!

Edit: I should really explain that it is still called a yellow card, but is gold in colour...They cost a fiver, but I got 3 of them for nothing because a girl I used to 'date' worked behind the bar in the local scream bar to my uni.

It should take you about 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you walk to get from Kingsmeadow to the centre of Kingston... There's a few pubs on the way, so you might pass one showing it anyway...

seeing as the ground is closer to New Malden than Kingston town, would it be worth checking to see if the The Fountain is showing the game??

'We' (not me personally) but everyone who worked at our local scream was part of our friendship group, so we got shit loads of free yellow cards/promo crap, but never had any of these Gold Cards!?!!? :eek:mg:

Fuck other pubs, even if it's further, I'm going to the Scream one!

Just checked Google Maps and it's apparently 29minutes walk from the stadium... and Google Maps always seems to assume that you're a leper... reckon I could do it in 20... sorted!

Well up for Saturday!

Even get to walk down a "Cambridge Road" between the Cambridge match and the pub!

The Mill is very easy to find from the centre of town. If you make your way to the old market section you walk away to the from town down the portsmouth road (the river runs along side) you will come past a GBK, see a Nandos on the other side of the road and will come straight outside the mill if you carry on walking.

Obviously you know that Scream bars stand out some what too...but to be fair the google map directions should serve you well anyway.

Just to show you I have not gone insane and invented this gold card in my mind

I want one!

Cheers for the directions... got a vague clue of how long it'd take to get back to Kings X from Kingston?

:hello: And yeah, if anyone reads this who frequents The Mill, I'll probably be all on my lonesome, so come say hello! (I'll be the skinny white guy with bleeched hair wearing a Spurs shirt and Cambridge scarf!)

I am not from Kingston, although it is only 20mins from me by car....so I have never done the route you need by foot. It takes next to no time in the car, but I suspect it may be a deceptively long walk, I would allow yourself half an hour to get there.

It's a pretty straight forward walk though, and as long as you stick the the directions down the cambridge round you will soon find your way to the one way system which makes it very easy to find the town centre. From there you just need the Portsmouth road and your laughing (head towards the waterfront for Portsmouth round)

Actually your best bet could be to turn left as you come into the town from the one way system i.e. when you reach the car park called the cattle market (or something like that) and follow the system round until you see Kingston College, walk past Kingston college (straight infront of it) and you will pass a Police staion and soon see the GBK infront of you. Turn left and you will head straight to THE MILL

So Cambridge road - left onto London Road - which will take you up to the point where I explained for the one way system.

As for Kings X you're looking at about an hour.
